Medical grow start up in Thailand

Thanks everyone for your replies.

My wife and I have decided to slow down and just try growing first. We're going to spend a lot of time here learning all the different tips and tricks, and growing a few plants practicing different training and growing methods. Hopefully we'll be ready to start by the end of the year if we are capable growers!

Thanks again :)

I thought it might be too hot outdoors, it can get over 45c (113f). I read that when it gets hotter than 30c you start getting problems. We get 6 plants, but then we can grow another 6 once we've given the buds to the public health office. So growing indoors means we can keep going all year round. I'm hoping we can get 3 or 4 harvests a year by using clones instead of starting from seed each time. We're going to switch over to hydroponic in a few months, once we've got enough cash and a commercial light. Also, as we're starting out at home we'd prefer to keep it inside and secure - and smelless!

Mylar was really cheap to buy, In Thailand you order a 3m roll of the stuff and it's got a sticky back - so no taping or gluing required! Cost me around 4 dollars for 2 rolls. Should come tomorrow so I'll be busy sticking it all over the place!
I don't know how to 'like' or 'thank' your posts - is there a widget somewhere I can click?
I wouldn’t start a room of all clones until you have proven your genetics & you know it’s what you want (high CBD content)! Since your only allowed 6 plants, I would start off with a pheno hunt & clone the best one & continue hunting until you have that super special pheno that dumps out that cbd/thc! Always keeping the best of the bunch around, then once you’re satisfied start cloning

Mars hydro ts1000 is a great light however way too underpowered if your trying to grow 500G trees. Honestly I would personally get at least one 600 W light per plant so you can maximize yields & use the mars hydro for a cloning/Veg light. Also, I would definitely stick with LED lights to help with electricity :weed:

Thailand is almost perfect. We have 12/12 natural sunlight all year round. He starts them off inside for vegging, then moves them outside for flowering.
funnily enough i was going to suggest this to you last night, with the acquisition of a couple of thai ridgebacks or pitbulls to guard the perimeter

So a little update! I gave the Thai stick plant to a friend to flower outside. He gave me some clones that look really weak and stretchy but we'll see how they go once I get them in smartpots. Plan to give them a couple of days to get stronger then re-pot and fim.
With the LH, I had an accident whilst hanging the TS1000 light that arrived today (a little late!) and it snapped the main stem. I trimmed up and took some clones that are sitting in water now. Turned out to be a bit of a lucky thing too because I found a shit ton of mealy bugs, and a fair bit of webbing. Took a few cotton buds and dipped them in 70% alcohol. Killed the ones I could see, spray cleaned the clones with water to get off all the bugs and sprayed some all over the mother plant. She still looks beautiful...
Mylar still hasn't arrived but shouldn't be long now. We got lucky with the weather, there's a summer storm and it's here to stay for a week or so...Temp has come down nicely.

Fungus gnats are another one you need to look out for. Absolutely terrible foe. After trying the "let the soil dry completely before watering" strat, I tried every other strat I could find. Almost gone through an entire bottle of neem oil for the adults, spread some cinnamon powder on the soil, done like 3 hydrogen peroxide drenches, and set up sticky straps. Just did a reup of all of these today, we'll see who wins this round.

Top dress with Hypoaspis miles before gnats get well established for the win.

Of course I've never grown in Thailand, but it does get hot and humid here in Oklahoma. I skimmed through this thread, and some tips that may come in handy are def stick with LED lighting. HPS/MH just create too much heat, and burn a lot of juice.
Let's talk about heat and humidity for a min. You need to figure out (on your final build) how many BTU's your room is going to produce. Think about the lights, dehumidifiers (they make a lot of heat too), pumps, fans, pretty much anything electrical puts out some sort of heat. Lets say you come up with 18,000 BTU's that's going to be produced. You're going to need around 36,000 BTU's of AC to compensate the 18,000 of heat, plus the headroom to actually control the room. You're going to want to lower your temps towards the end of flower. Im going off of my numbers by the way in a 20x30 room that is fully sealed and using a CO2 generator. I have to use (3) 4,000 SQ FT dehumidifiers to keep my room under control after we flip to flower. During veg, we do want that 70% range of RH, and I have to run a evaporative cooler (swamp cooler) to keep it up there. About the time you flip, they will be big enough to make their own humidity through transpiration in the room plus some. This is about the time I'll remove the evaporative cooler and start firing up the dehumidifiers to start bringing it down to 50% rh, and later in flower, I try to reach 40%... which is harder than you think, even in a sealed room. I have the 3 dehuyes running on turbo 24/7 AND the AC unit is pulling moisture as well (prob most of it). I'd say we pull about 500-600 pints a day out of there during mid flower. This is because we raise the temps during mid flower and as you know, higher temps hold more water vapor in the air. I've been in discussion about Mylar vs. flat white paint. I have both currently and im going to see which side of the room produces better results. Speaking of results, don't expect 500g plants unless you veg for months, train them like crazy with super cropping, topping, LST, etc and then set them into flower. I personally have never reached that number. Best I've ever done was 292g per plant market ready. So don't get discouraged when you see 114g or even lower on your first run. I am by no means an expert grower, but I do run a commercial operation, and run about 90-100 plants at a time. We're always experimenting with different soils, CO2 levels, temps, RH, and we document everything we change trying to reach a consistent final product weight. So many factors go into what you'll produce.... everything I mentioned above, plus genetics are a large part of that as well. We've had plants sitting right next to each other getting the same treatment, and they will vary greatly in the way they finish. ... even the same pheonos of clones will produce differently depending on how you train them. I wish you the best of luck!.. and hope some of this helped.

Thanks for your reply, a lot of great information here :) I'm thinking about designing a hybrid system. Clone & veg indoors and use natural sunlight indoors to flower. My wife's daughter is a final year architect student and may be able to hep us design something. I don't want them to be fully outside due to all of the pest concerns.
Also - has anyone else noticed that the MarsHydro TS1000 makes a low humming noise occasionally? The 600 is silent, so I'm assuming it's completely normal for the driver to make sounds?

No my mars hydro 1000 does not hum:(, I heard they may have switched drivers. Do you have these drivers?

Pretty sure those are the updated drivers, and no they should not be doing that I would contact Mars Hydro and try and exchange that out!

So after dealing with all of the heat, humidity and bugs (spider mites & mealy) in a greenhouse/outdoor grow, We've thrown away the plants, bought a grow tent and moved indoors! We'll be trying both hydro & soil methods, but we've decided to go with soil for this one, our first proper grow. Our plants are 12 days old and 3 inches tall.

Going to go with mainlining, LST and lollipopping with 8 colas on each plant. I hope the 3 gallon fabric pots are big enough for the task...

Questions:
SoG/SCROG or support for the buds? No nutes have been given, so any suggestions on when to start would be great. We were thinking just after the first topping? What kind of yield for a 'competent/good' grow should we be aiming for with these lights and set up?

Kit:
Growing lemon haze (bag seeds) x2 (Photoperiod)
fabric pots (3 gallon)
organic soil mix with coco
mars hydro ts1000 & mars hydro ts600 (150w & 100w)
grow tent 1m x 1m x 2m
Temp AC controlled @ 26.5C (79F) 60 humidity.
No inline fans/ ducting yet - closer to flowering I'll install a charcoal filter extraction system.

Thanks for reading and sharing :)
