I am using a 70w hps and some CFLS. I was running all lights for 24 hours up untill two weeks ago. I decided to put the HPS on a 18/6 schedule to save some energy and it makes the room really hot. I was at the hydro shop today and the guy said that it is possible by doing this that I could have put the plants into flower. I thought I would be ok because the CFLS were never off so the plant never experienced total darkness. But he said that did not make a differnce because the the HPS emmits diffent spectrums. I couldnt find too many pictures of the early flowering stage so I cant really tell myself if it is flowering. I have noticed that they are smelling stronger and the stem looks like it has more crystals. Take a look at my pictures and tell me if you think that these are flowering. If it is flowering what do I do? Should I go to 12 12? The plants are 10inches tall and about two months old. They plants growth was stunted for the first month because of PH and nutrient problems, but has been growing fine for the last month. I need some advice because I am afraid that if go 12 12 it is too early or if I go back to 24 it will srew up its cycle. Also I havent read up enough on sexing yet to tell myself (because I didnt think I would need to know till I went 12 12). Can you tell the sex on this yet?

The vegetative stage is generally 18/6 or 16/8. You will not put your plants in flowering until 12/12. You may however see preflowers coming from the nodes after 40 days. You will be fine. just keep it on 18/6.

I know that that is a typical vegitative cycle, but he said that if you use an HPS during veg that this could happen because of the spectrum it emits. Most people do not veg on an HPS and if they do he told me that you should only go 24. Usually when I talk to somebody i can tell if they really know what they are talking about, with this guy im not sure.

Here is the answer to your question. That is good info!

The guy at the hydro store was right. By changing the lights, you did what nature does. Outdoors plants are triggered to flower by decreasing light cycles and the changing angle of the sun in the sky. By turning off the HPS, you did reduce the light cycle and it could very well trigger flowering.

I can't tell sex from your photos at this time.

2 month old plants are ready to go 12/12. They will grow immensely after you switch light cycles.

Your plants look great!

Thanks Johnny, first compliment I recieved. So how can you tell when it goes into flower? Im guessing when it starts to show sex or when you can see buds? So by looking at the picture you would say it is flower? That isnt a bud site on top is it?

But only going to 18/6 shouldn't flower it right? Maybe preflowers?

I think it was the 2nd or the 3rd pic it almost looks like a preflower starting on the node on the right.

Too soon to tell. Even if you go straight to 12/12 now, you may not see sex for up to 10 days. Every strain, even every plant is a little different.

Varies from plant to plant. I've seen plants from seed which have enough auto-flower characteristics in them to start flowering in 18/6 with no disruption in the light cycle.

I am not comfortable determining sex based on those photos.

Oh...ok. That makes sense. The whole auto-flowering thing.....eh......not my bag but pretty cool.

Yeah i don't see any def. to say guy or girl. I'd say you'll know pretty soon.

Alright the pictures of the nodes before were from pretty high up on the plant. These are lower on the plant. These look like the signs that are shown on the FAQ section. Anyway, judging on the pics and the size of the plants and my situation what should I do? Should I stay at 18/6, go back 24/7, or go to 12 12? Also should I trim so of these big leaves up? How much should I trim? Can you trim too much and harm the plant?

Alright, I wanted to try to clone these. I know you cannot do that after flowering, but given my fucked up situation I am going to try it. Can I get a cloning soloution at any nursery or lowes perhaps? Or do I have to get the 25$ bottle at the hydro shop?
