This may be a very silly question but would slow release hot tub sterilizing tablets work in hydroponics to prevent root rot? Reason I ask is Plant Magic do something called

PYTH Tabz
Benefits of using Pyth Tabz:

PYTH Tabz is 99.99% effective against Pythium. These Tabz sterilize the entire water system giving the grower peace of mind that all fungi and bacterial pathogens are killed and no longer evident in the water.

  • Kills Pythium 99.99% of the time
  • Sterilises Water
Works for 7-10 Days

I have had the rot on and off for years now and it is now in my new bucket flood and drain. Temps never over 20c. Will try Tribus Original for this next grow and see what happens (Botanicare Hydro guard and many other Botanicare products have been hard to get in UK since lockdown) If this doesn't work may go back sterile.

I may this time trim the roots back to the Aquapot all the way through until I put the net over 3 week into flower as it is mainly happening in the bottom wedge of thick compacted roots that sit in the bottom of the little bit of water that won't drain out of the buckets. I have seen the copper inserts' that also claim to stop roots coming out of the bottom of the pot but never used them.

Never used slow release but its shock so I dont see why it wouldnt work. Might want to get test strips or a pool test kit so you know you dont have too much.

I have used pool shock, problem is as soon as the chlorine is mixed with nutrients it doesn't show up on the pool test strips. I have no idea wh maybe the nutrients deactivate or change it somehow.

Someone here once said that chlorine will mix with nitrogen and becomes chloramine...maybe thats why your test strips wont read any chlorine. Try adding a puck to the same amount of plane water, as your system, and see how many ppm you get.
