The new build: ( 32 ) cxb3590 ( 36v ) CD 3500K @ 700ma for a 4'x8' space

This is my first experience with cxb3590s and to be honest, I am a little unsure if a 700ma drive current will provide enough ppfd for my 4x8 space. In designing this build, I wanted to be able to quickly and easily swap drivers to one HLG185h-c1400 per bar if I decide that I need more light. So I wired each hlg700 to be able to accept a connection from each bar, individually.

Wiring pictured in attachments: Using 2 DC female jacks, I wired the (+) from the driver to the (+) of one female jack, then the (-) to the (-) of another jack. Then I added a yellow jumper wire from the (-) of jack one to the (+) of jack two. This allows me to complete the circuit for ( 8 ) cobs to one 700ma driver while allowing me to quickly plug a bar into a 1400ma driver without rewiring.

Im calculating 659 PPFD, for this setup over 32 sqft. Do you guys think this will be enough juice, or do you think I should add another 8 cobs @ 700ma?

they would be well enough to put 4 cxb3590 passive cooled ???
I wanted the réduires 36" like you but just as the height of the wings
that are different from yours that you have taken on heatsink usa
hetsink of the usa are: 1.270"
and what I have found are: 0.984"

Hey Growmau, just found your DIY LED vids on you tube, Awesome!!!!, I just wish they'd been available when I researched/built my own. Still a great watch(not got through all of em yet), very informative and it will definitely help me finalize/reassess my designs for my next builds, reading all these forums can get confusing and your vids help put it down plain and simple

I'm sat watching them grinning like a cheshire cat (English phrase...sorry), just itching to get a parts list ordered and get building..........alas I haven't got the budget at the moment, my next 2 lights will be to cover an 8x4 and it's a lot of money in cobs and drivers.

I'm not a mau5, but 9900cm² of surface area, will dissipate 82.5W of heat, so not enough for 4 CXB3590@50W, if you mean at 25W then it's double what you need in terms of surface area ...

NOTE : The base looks a little too thin for passive cooling.

Quick question. I watched your video on converting a Mars 2 400 watt to a cob light. I want to do the same with my Sunspect panels. They are 600w (277 actual)

The driver specs from the Sunspect panels.

Max volt 140 and 700 -750ma

How many 100 watt chips per driver? I could do 4 36v chips but will they have enough "power" I/e be bright enough. Or do I got with two 72v chips per driver? As you can tell I am pretty "green" on this stuff lol




I just completed a smaller grow with 2 of these panels (Sunspects) and something needs to change lol. I want to try my hand at a mod like this before I attempt a full build and drop some hard earned money. A get my feet wet in diy leds if you will.

This is exactly what I'm going to do. Except 3590's and no little leds on mine. Just COBs. Is that the 4.850" profile from heatsinkusa? And at what length are these? Or did you add 1" 90 degree angle bar to the outside edges of your heatsinks?

It's similar i think, but this is a profile I found in the uk, more expensive than heatsink usa, but with shipping made it the cheaper option. The outside edges are made of 2x3" aluminium angle channel which I salvaged from a building site

I'm making a 12 cxb 3590 cd 3500k and putting 4 on each hlg185-1400a...my question is i wanna hook all my power supplies up together using a sago connector and then connecting that to one cord ..can i do this???

Yes you sure can. Crimps might be easier and nicer lookin. I'm doing the same thing but 9 3 per heating with 120-1400.

If I didn't want the light to be dimmable, I would go with HLG 240 c 1050 a, not HLG 240 c1050 b, correct?

the 'a' has a interior dim pot
the b has outside dimming & the wires to get that done
but really there was no price difference so i went with the dimming b model

Just starting my first run with my COB build and I must say I am appreciating the dimming far more then I could have thought. I am dimmed to under half power right now with freshly potted clones. The clones are fat and health but under a 4 bulb t5 till now, they would be toast at full power in my set up...
