I read another story... connected with the history of the USA, which again surprised me greatly.))
You may have heard that in the USSR the date of May 1 was celebrated very pompously. May 1 is the day of solidarity of workers of the whole world.

This story began in the USA. On May 1, 1886, Chicago workers organized a strike demanding an 8-hour workday, instead of 15 hours. That day there was a bloody clash with the police. There were deaths during the dispersal of the strike between the workers and the police. This went down in history as the
Haymarket Massacre.

At the suggestion of American workers, who had planned their strike for May 1, 1890, specifically in memory of the executed, the Paris Congress of the Second International (July 1889) declared May 1 as the Day of Solidarity of Workers of the World.
In 1890, the first May Day, with the participation of more than 10 thousand workers, took place in Warsaw, and a year later it was held in St. Petersburg, where its organizers were the leaders of the Social Democratic group. On May 1, 1891, the Social Democratic group of revolutionary Mikhail Brusnev organized the first festive gathering of workers in Petrograd (now St. Petersburg).
The Kharkov May Day, which took place on May 1, 1900, became the first open mass action of workers in Russia, during which it was decided not to go to work and organize a street demonstration.
They all had one demand - an 8-hour work day.
This is how the Day of Workers' Solidarity came into being.
I congratulate all workers on the holiday!
