Math Dilema!!!

I'm racking my brain with this and need some help, I bought 3 bags of FOFF 42.5L (38.6 dry quarts) each and a 4 cu ft bag of perlite. I need to fill up 9, 5 gallon pots (45 gallons total). I want to use all the soil so... How many parts soil to how many parts perlite do I mix? + Rep for all those who have a higher IQ than me!

well... 4 cubic feet is about 102 quarts and there are 4 quarts in a gallon. 45 gallons x 4 = 180 quarts you need to fill your buckets. You have 38 quarts of soil and 102 quarts of perlite for a total of about 140 quarts. You would be 10 gallons from filling your buckets by this math. Also, you have a ratio of about 1 part soil and 2 parts perlite. Ideally you would want 2 parts soil and 1 part perlite or 3 parts soil 1 part perlite. I would buy about 3 times the soil you have if you only have 38 quarts and then mix 1/3 perlite with 2/3 soil leaving about half of your perlite leftover in the end.

I came up with (38.6*3)/4=28.95 gallons of soil. (45-28.95)/28.95=0.55, which i figure means for every 1 part of soil I need a little over half a part of perlite... Please somebody tell me I'm retarded!

38.6 x 3=115.8/4=28.95 gallons of soil

4cuft=29.9220779gal

45-28.95=16.05 gal converted to cubic ft=2.14557292 cuft

Yep, 2/1

my bad, didnt realize you meant 38 quarts in each bag hahaha... im definately high right now. 28.95/45= 64.33 percent soil and then you would have 16.05 gallons left to fill with perlite which means 16.05/45= 35.66 percent perlite. So using roughly 2 parts soil and one part perlite would translate to 66% soil and 33% perlite. You would use up all of your soil this way and a little more than half of your perlite.

the wrong answer and the stoner's answer are usually both wrong, but the stoner's answer is always funnier!!!

You're Retarted, there I said it... LOL Just use the 3:1 ratio and you will be good... Nuff said... Over-engineering leads to heavy pot smoking... I know this from experience.... :)
