Matching Drivers and COBs

Can I do 4 3000k 3590 and 2 5000k 3590 @36v in a series using the HLG240H-C1050B driver? Is this a good setup regarding efficiency? I'm a n00b at this stuff and don't quite understand the chart. Also, the HLG240H-C1050B can be run from a regular 110 outlet right?
Yes you can, just be careful.

It's actually not pushing the limit. It can hold 6.6-6.8 cobs. Almost 7 but not quite.
Pushing it is my set up.
4 3590's on a 240-1750b x 2. It holds 3.9, but with the fV being lower at less than 2800ma that Cree says it's actually 36v's, I run it nice and tight. Probably the closest set up you can do with these cobs I think to fitting exactly what the driver can handle on it.

What would my suggest setup pull from the wall? I'm on the East Coast and electric prices are crazy. I run a 600w hps now in a 5x5.

ok i found out the active cooled single module units i had made
were wired in parallel

can they be rewired in series or would i need a different driver?

4 COBs with 1 driver 4pcs 50W CXB3590

heres a graph i think it was made by supra but it shows all the combos for series wiring and how many cobs will run this way.idk why this chart isnt stickied at the top of this section by itself lol.

you can put a fuse inline on the positive side of each cob to protect them if your worried.i would do it if it was me building a panel using parallel wiring.just use a 2.5 amp fuse so if a cob does fail the other fuses will blow to protect the 3 remaining cobs. @Growmau5 talked about this in one of his vids and its good insurance imo.

thanks will do...if one stops while wired series then do they all stop?
was waiting for one of the experts to answer that,but it would make sense that yes if 1 blows it would break the circuit and all the lights in series would go out.but even if one burned out and somehow the rest stayed lite up they would not be overdriven,the amps would remain the same which is generally much lower than parallel wiring.this is why most guys use series wiring over para,plus if you did lose a cob in series,most times you could just jump past that light with a new wire and keep using the panel while you wait for a replacment cob.

hi guy's i plan on building a litle 2 or 3 cob veglight first [with the best components i can sours this side of the pont], to get my autoflowers up to about 8 or 10 inches before i put them outside under the mother growlight, and want to slowly expand to flowering a few plants indoor this winter.
i was put on to this great forum by growmou5's youtube video's and finding a lot of great info here, for witch i thank you all.
from grouwmou5's nice video's i leaned that running cob's at lower amp's is more efficient, but supra's list here says that the hlg-60h-c700 is actually a litle less efficient than the hlc-120h-c1400??!!
can anybody explain what i am missing??, and wich driver would be best for me??

i would assume AC to DC conversion at higher voltage values is more efficient. so 110v AC to 110v DC is more efficient than 110v AC to 50vDC. but thats just a guess.

why dont you grab an HLG120 so you have room to run your 3 cobs. what drive current are we talking about here 700ma or 1400ma?

it seems the lower wattage drivers are all less efficient.
hlg600 (constant voltage) hits 96
hlg320 (constant voltage) hits 95
hlg185,240,320(constant current) hit 94ish
the 60-120W drivers all seem to top out at 89-92%

in addition in a given series like HLG185, differnet current models will ahve differnet efficiencies. i think as you mentioned as current goes down so does efficiency but you should more than make up for that on cob efficiency at low currents

so i was basicly just mixing up driver efficiency and overall efficientcy of the compleet setup.
maybe i sould go for 3 on the soft 60h700 for veg this summer, nice and efficient and low temp.
and than expand with a 120h1400 for flower next winter, nice and toasty with high ppfd.
sinds light in nature is not always the same couler, i was thinkin to get a 4000 a 5000 and a 6500k for veg and rotate plants and lights around frequetly.

pleace let me know if my way of thinkin' makes any sence ;-)
