Hey, i am new to this as well but i started off with a 300w mars hydro i got at a good price. It only puts out 140w so 4 weeks into veg i bought another 300w to add into my space. So that gave me 280 over both lights, it is ideal to have two 300w rather than one 600w as you can lower or raise independantly and space them to provide a better light spread over your canopy. The 280w in total now gives me 70w per square foot which is a good amount. I only have a small 2x2 space.

They are good lights, i am having good growth under them. I also have another space with just 1 300w which i use for vegging then when they are about 4/5 weeks i move them into the "flowering" space.

When i found the mars 600 it came with a 450w also. I think its a knockoff judging growth difference in dwc experiment under it. I had ph issues on the dwc due to no cal solution for pen but the only growth i noticed in dwc experiment was the few days they were under the mars 600. Oh well $55 total for both so im just going to say i payed 55 for the mars 600. Is there away to replace led panel in knockoff 450 using components inside light and if so any suggestions would be great.

Contrary to what is being told to you, the Mars light is FAR superior to any CFL bulb. CFL's are a complete waste of money. But if you'd rather buy a new ten pack of bulbs every three months as they degrade, and cob up a shit load of sockets and reflectors then have at it. If all you've got to spend is $75, then there isn't much choice. NO, cheap, Chinese lights aren't even comparable to good DIY or commercial lights, but they don't cost $700 - $1300 either!

start with what you can afford, then upgrade as you can.
Mars is trash.
CFL is trash, and everytime you throw them out, your polluting with Mercury. I'll take the worst LED over ANY cfl!

Oh wow I am a novice and only been on this forum 3 days right so now I have a problem I have six seeds germinating and can see tap root of all I have the mars hrdro 300 watt which sounds useless now a blue 150 watt cfl and a red one 150 watt I clearly need to order a mother light watt can I get to help for 100 to 150 without ir being hps would like to spend more but funds are limited

Correction , Cfls and mars hydros blurple outdated leds are both trash..

Not sure why the OP is trying to avoid the HPS? Out of everything you have mentioned and your price range...the hps would benefit you the most in bang for buck. Do you worry about heat issues or power consumption? If you arent concerned about initial cost then I'd suggest a 200W COB LED build for under $400 USD. If you are on a budget and want lots of light with a little heat then I'd go HPS 150W. CFL and disco lights should be last resort things in my opinion since both are not the best lighting you can get.

I'm going to just bypass the assumption you have absolutely no real idea of what your talking about and just gloss over the undeniable facts...
mercury is naturally occurring. It's in the water you use, it's in the soil you use, it's in the rocks around you and it's in your body. It's in space as well, and existed naturally on this planet before it was habitable for life. Redistribution of a natural substance can be called whatever you want - but CFLs or not it's out there. A burple light and the dirty coal burned to power the factories to build them, and the extra coal and oil you use to power these less efficient lights, the mines in China with almost nonexistent environmental protections, and the substantial amounts of fuel to send millions of tons of supplies back and forth across the oceans to bring you the junk releases TONS of mercury into the air and into densely populated parts of the planet.



it's not a fact I can prove offhand, but a very reasonable assumption to state the environmental mercury redistribution (and concentration in human life) is greater from a burple light vs a CFL setup.

Ps. You know you can recycle CFLs in a safe manner in almost any nation om earth right? A burple light... Not so much. Maybe for scrap tin or scrap steel that gets sent back to china and does additional untold environmental damage.

Nice try! And ALL lighting technology is "dirty". However, I'll buy into your statement when you back it up with data across all types of lights being used for any purpose. I've seen no data suggesting LED is dirtier than CFL, or HPS, or Metal Halide, etc. without facts to back it up, your mouthing platitudes rather than valuable information and you'll convince nobody with opinion vs facts. So, go ahead, pick your poison.

And all that "naturally occurring" mercury is being redistributed in to pockets of dangerous proportions. NO? Then explain the increasing amounts in wildlife and our food supply. Your free to believe whatever you want.

And I've seen the "efficiency" of many of those recycling programs, and they do NOT fill me with confidence as to their efficacy!

and it doesn't change the fact that their light producing efficiency is on the low end, and their useful life in a growroom is 3 to 6 months. That alone contributes to the mountains of trash we humans create. My "poisonous" LEDs will still be functioning 5 years from now. Where will your CFLs be??? Creating continuing trash and pollution.

I'd gladly grow all my plants outdoors, under the sun.But even in "legal" to grow areas, most do NOT allow outdoor growing. In fact, commercial and personal grows are done 90% indoors because they are forced to by law! And then the politicians bitch about power consumption. When you teach me to grow indoors without lights, I will be your disciple!

If you want to grow under CFL or any other form, have at it!

You know the biggest problem trying to learn about LED is just the sheer amount of nonsense you have to dig through. I guess I know cxb3590 DIY is the direction I wanna go but can I live with 1400ma 36v efficiency. I keep hearing that voice in my head saying go for 350ma, no better yet spend the cash and go 100ma. But I just don't know enough to spend that size of a stack of cash.. I am replacing 3600w of HPS because I want to run full room during the summer instead of dropping down to 1000w.

Honestly I didn't realize how dumb I am before trying to understand led. I see why people make the wrong choice and/or think LED is nonsense.

I can look into light for a few seconds or so, squinting very badly before having to look away. Is this thing gonna get me high or not ???

Don't worry, you'll get buds with those lights. You won't necessarily reach the plants genetic potential, but you'll be high after the harvest for sure.
