Now you may ask, how can I find one that is suitable for my growth? I have a 5x5' grow space so was looking at both the FC 6500 and the FC-E 6500 @MarsHydrofactory and a feature of FC-E model I really like is the ability to move the light bars in closer together. This would allow the grower to light up a smaller area while the plants are relatively small and lower the power yet supply as much light per square inch as it would with the bars at full spread at higher power settings. As the plants get larger and more spread out then the bars can be spread further apart and the power turned up to keep light levels the same across a wider area.
I have used HID lights since 1982 and after starting seedlings under fluoro tubes move them under a 400W MH then when needed under a 600W and finally a 1000W MH or HPS for flowering an area of 5x5' so as not to waste light and power using a light larger than needed for the area.
So I was wondering why such a simple design feature wasn't used with the FC series lights? Power where I live in northern Alberta is very expensive @ 26.5¢/kwh and easily the majority of my expense for each grow so efficient use of light is of great interest to me. The much higher outlay cost of LEDs compared to HIDs I already have keeps me from switching over to the more efficient technology. As a pensioner on a limited income I may not live long enough to recoup those costs in power savings. For a younger grower with no lights LEDs are definitely the way to go.
As my post secondary education is in chemistry and not electronics I'm not sure if this is possible but I was thinking if two smaller power supplies were used then only half the light bars could be powered to get the same effect when plants are smaller and less area needed to be lit up.
Both of those lights and the SP series look like great units and one of them should fit anyone's growing needs.

A homemade box with sheetrock walls and a second-hand dinosaur blurple light just really sucks! But you gotta do the best you can with what you got! I would take either model in a heartbeat. Maybe then I could join in a do a grow journal and show some amazing plants like these other guys do!
