So in like hid takes place cake then huh?
No you're just not even close to hid as far as actual wattage draw goes. That 300 watt Mars panel only puts out 100-150 actual watts. So it has more to do with the actual light you're putting out than the type of lighting system.

i should be getting my mars300 today or tomorrow but i was wondering what u think i should do for my small cab thats 34 inches L x 16 inches W x 22 1/2 inches H
you seem to be the best person for insight, i was going to run 5 1 gallons and then some .5 gallons and such, but what would u do with a cab like mine is what i want to know.

You'll probably find a LOT of good info in the stealth/micro/cab grow section, in terms of both growing in the small space and growing under that specific light. Good luck to you! :)

I'd do just a bunch of clones in .5 gals .as many as you can fit in the 1sq foot footprint. Just based on your height restrictions. 22" ain't shit. But if it were me I'd buy one more of them if you've already got one and utilize that whole 36" long space. 2 more would be even better. Then you could fill the cab with clones and get more like 3-450 grams.

Actually I'd do 4 cobs. 2 on the outsides of the 36" & your blurple in the middle. You will LOVE THE RESULTS. Use 4 CXB3590's at 1400ma on a dimmable driver for the perfect setup for that space.

hey thanks for the insight. got the light in today, after hanging it + the 3 in height of the light i am left with 17 1/2 inches of grow height . using the hangers wasnt an option. i would have been left with 10'' to grow with. might do my first scrog for this one. only shit part is because of the height being so short, the footprint is limited. i do have a stacked rubbermaid i can run it in but it would need slight mods. if someone sold pre made diy cree cobs id grab one, simply because i never soldered ever and im kinda of on a budget but i dont know anyone who does on the forums.

Check out eBay they sell single cob kits for around 100 dollars or get 5 meters of Samsung strip lights from Heraco lighting for $60 then just mount them to a baking sheet or Walmart has 100w led replacement globes for around ten dollars just remove the globe and defuser they put out a good amount of light.
