Marijuana use and child conception

I know that you are not appreciating my prior advice. I'll just leave it there.

How long have you been trying to conceive? Was she on the pill before this? How old are you? My wife and I tried for 18 months before it happened. We asked our doctors and they said "relax - just relax". She told my wife about a couple of her friends that tried for years - even with a fertility specialist - and finally gave up. Not long after, they went on vacation... Smoked some weed... 40 weeks later, a baby.

I'm just saying that your wife seems pretty far from chilled out. The whole gluten
thing should give you a clue on what you are in for. Yes, if you agree to give up weed, it will be a forever thing in my opinion. But something tells me that she is not going to stop there. Soon it will be something else that needs fixing. If I were you, I would smoke plenty of weed. You are going to need it - baby or no baby.

I'm not trying to be rude, just honest. The patterns of her behavior that you have written about do not bode well for you in future. Good luck. It would get a million times worse if you do have one. And it will never end. There will always be something wrong that she needs to fix or some sudden truth just revealed to her that she will need to change your life for. You will be zigging and zagging for the rest of your life until she finds a bible and you, a girlfriend or an all consuming hobby.

Have you tried taking a stand with her? As in "fuck no, I am not quitting weed" ? What would happen? Might pay dividends ithe future.
Just found this thread and it's hard to argue with this. I looked at the first study posted too and they used a sample size of 22 men and synthetic cannabinoids to reach their conclusions (and I saw 0 mention of alcohol and smoking and other drug use that might be influencing being properly controlled either).

I think his wife hasn't really done the homework on this and it sounds like she doesn't really do the homework on anything yet seems to form strong opinions that she pushes on him.

Personally I couldn't handle that unless she was also receptive to new information countering her opinions.

Let me tell you first hand. Me and my wife consume A LOT of MMJ. She cut back some while pregnant but never stopped. No problems conceiving. ZERO problems with child. By all accounts he is above average according to his Dr.

Marijuana is not the demon its made out to be. I would say problems conceiving are most likely due to other contributing factors. Take it for what is worth.... But both of my kids are exceptional.

Still no luck. I stopped smoking on Jan 1, 2016 and am giving it a 6 month trial period to see if that has any effect. It sucks. I was very clear that I am never giving up growing, and never giving up smoking. I wanted to test it out and see if not smoking would really have any effect on our fertility though. I have smoked once each month so far, and probably will continue that trend through the rest of this sobriety trip, so not entirely sober - but a close to 100% reduction in consumption. I am starting my grow back up now though in preparation of the celebration in July. A celebration either because we become pregnant, or because we didn't get pregnant but I can start smoking my home grown again.

have you considered a fertility doctor for the both of you to be tested
how old are you both?

under 30 should only take 6 months or less
over 30 can take longer than a year of trying.

I'd rather not post all the details, but yes we've been to fertility specialists and spent thousands on treatments already. Currently saving up to perform IVF, but undecided if we are going to go through with it or just accept our fate and save that money. We want kids, but it sure would be nice to plunk that $30-40k into an investment account, take nice vacations every year, and retire significantly sooner than normal, so it's a difficult decision.

Me giving up smoking is sort of a last resort before spending all that money on IVF. I have my doubts that it's causing our infertility, and everything seems to be fine with us physically (the diagnosis is unexplained infertility), but I figure I would rather give it a shot for 6 months before spending so much money.

Idk what the op says but based on title
Yes is the likely answer.
Or it can make it hard to get preggo in certain individuals and/or with high use

Good luck op. I was in a similar position as you but after like 6 months she was seeing double lines on the pee stick thing. I never quit fully but I slowed down a lot. And I stopped pulling on the salami, I think that may have helped too- definitely saved on tissues.

You could always adopt plenty of children who need loving homes
Where as ivf doesn't always work and typically when it does you get twins or more sometimes !

Wish you guys the best you're not alone in your struggles that's for sure

Yea we are considering that as well. I would prefer to have our own, but we may adopt if it doesn't work out. I don't quite feel the same urgency with adopting as I do with conceiving though. I definitely don't want to be the old dad, but we still have a few years before that window closes on us.

I really don't think it makes a difference. I have seen loads of friends getting kids and smoking on the daily. I consume about an oz a week and have done for over 30 years and had no issues getting my wife pregnant recently. Seriously thought I was in for months of fun...preggers stick was shoved under my nose literally in the first couple of weeks ffs.. First time it took nearly 18 months and I seriously thought I was a jaffa. Not sure how long you have been trying but good luck with whatever you decide. Peace, DST

I lost track, but I think it's been like 2 or 2.5 years. We tried for a year and then went to a fertility specialist. Then we got pregnant, but ended up miscarrying. That was over a year ago, so 2-2.5 years total at this point.

if youre over 30 which ima assume at this point thats a little long. but i wouldnt get too worried ...i know the pressure might be up because you dont wanna be too old, and older women have more complications/high risk.
im sorry you miscarried, thats really terrible, but at the same time it only happens because baby is not viable.

sometimes people just have trouble though and no real infertility problems.

i dont think marijuana has been studied enough on sexual reproduction , pregnancy or other things related as such for me to really believe one way or another

Yea we know it's long. Seen the specialists and done pretty much everything except IVF. The cost is so high we needed another year to save up the $30k+ required.

The miscarriage was hard on girl_incognito, but as a silver lining we know it's at least physically possible for us to get pregnant, so there is that.

I'm not really seeking any more information or anything in this thread. I just like to periodically revisit my old posts to update people and leave a record for myself.
