Marijuana as a psychedelic

So, if you feel inclined to read this, keep in mind it's all just personal thoughts. I'm not attempting to state anything as fact, and I'm not trying to claim that anything is one way or the other. This is solely for conversational purposes, so if you respond keep that in mind, and try to keep it civil :)

So, most people don't associate the effects of marijuana as anything resembling a psychedelic experience. The experiences I've had with what are considered to be defacto psychedelics, don't differ too much from a marijuana experience at their core. In a nutshell, marijuana is used extensively medically, but I feel strongly there is a lot that this plant has to offer that is still all too often overlooked. As much as we think we know this plant, I think we haven't even scratched the surface.

As legalization continues to roll out, I feel that I see more and more comments from people that pertain to something normally reserved for an acid trip. Things like, "Marijuana shows you your true self" or "marijuana opens your eyes to how the world really works". These aren't isolated incidents by any means, and I'm not sure people know how to handle profound experiences like that all of a sudden. So it often manifests itself into paranoia or anxiety. That's just my theory though.

I know that effects will vary from person to person, but if you approach marijuana use, or a particular toking session, the same way one would prepare for a psychedelic trip into their mind with mushrooms, there is a lot of potential for spiritual healing, which, in my experience, has been somewhat overlooked. Some even consider this to be a negative experience, and prefer not to talk about it because they think something is wrong with them, as opposed to understanding they are at the whim of something very powerful and perhaps are under-prepared!

The stigma associated with cannabis makes it difficult for people to view it as a pseudo-psychedelic. The cliche's and the stereotypes formed over the years of your typical stoner, by extension, just don't do much to help its image.

Some of my most insightful, inspiring, terrifying, and joyous thoughts were experienced with the help of this plant. I'm sure many of you have experienced what I speak of. What are your thoughts? Do you have any experiences you can share that aren't typically associated with cannabis use? Do you think, as a whole, society tends to underestimate the true power of this plant?

I'll go first. I don't know what experience to share, there are so many. But to keep it quick, this was when I was a rebellious teenager. I remember feeling overwhelmed that my room was a mess and I treated my parents like crap. I tried to fight it, not understanding the plant was just trying to help me, and after a bit I just succumbed to it, and from then on, I kept my room tidy and was 20 times more respectful to my parents. I remember feeling that we only have so much time to do the right thing. People had told me "life is short", etc, but this time I actually felt it, and it was such a relief to come to my own conclusion and act on that, instead of trying to follow someones advice that were just words. I just let the plant do its thing.

Marijuana isn't really a psychedelic. What it does is excites our "cannabis" receptors, which are supposed to bind with a substance called Anandamide. This substance is made when we are at peace, our minds can then get in a state of hyperawareness. For some they get sleepy and happy only, for others who are deficient in Anandamide production, for the first time become aware. It puzzles them and they get overloaded, which can then cause anxiety and paranoia for those who have a rigid concept of reality.

All this can be done without the use of marijuana. But getting to that state of samadhi is very difficult. The benefit of getting stoned with mind alone, is you aren't controlled with a substance. You feel stoned, yet have 100% clarity of thought. No paranoia, no confusion, no tiredness, and can be turned off at any time.

When you do marijuana, that doesn't happen. It's a fake sense of enlightenment. You think you're having a religious experience, but you're not. It's you experiencing euphoria at a chemical losing control for a moment until your body uses up said chemical.

fake or real it not anyone to say but the one who has the thought or the visions......the use of chemicals to suppress the ego has been shown in several cultures that are split from contact by time and distance ....to me this means they have a point or some value due to the fact the idea repeats

the whole religion factor is all on the person who sees something .....it really breaks down to subconscious of the person and using the hyperawareness u are talking about bound to no ego that shows u a new way of looking at something

enlightenment is just that not fake to it as long as the person learns something not thought of
