Marijuana A Factor In Deadly Mission, B.C. Crash: RCMP

RCMP in Mission, B.C. believe drugged driving was a factor in a crash that killed an Abbotsford man Saturday morning.

It happened on Lougheed Highway, west of Silver Creek industrial park, at around 9 a.m., according to a police news release.

A black Dodge pickup truck with two occupants crossed the road's centre line and hit an oncoming white van. The van's driver, a man in his 60s, was killed.

"It is believed that marijuana use was a contributing factor to this incident," the release said.

The driver of the pickup truck, a 25-year-old man, has been arrested, and police will be recommending a charge of impaired driving causing death.

Investigators are asking for any witnesses to come forward.

... sign of the times when they use words like... "believed" it was the cause....
It could have been a hundred different reasons......
but they pick the one that is trying to change for the good to use as a wedge against it.
(media bullshit, lies)

Now...how about we talk about the deaths cause by legal pharma made meds!?!?!?!
people die every 15 mins daily but that's OK cause it makes lots and lots of MONEY!!!
I guess once POT starts to make trillions..no one will care about people dying much either.

From another BS media site...

"The driver of the pickup truck, a 25-year-old man, has been arrested, "BUT NOT CHARGED!!!!".
Police will be recommending a charge of impaired driving causing death, according to the release."

Cops can't lay charges in BC, that's up to the 'crown'. If the cops recommend charges, it's gonna happen.

my worthless opinion here...because i do advocate pharmaceuticals, yes people od and die on them. but more people commit suicide every year than all prescription related deaths. i dont and will never understand some peoples problem with prescription or otc medicine. an opinion from.someone whos living is this.. you really think they dont help and save people?
anyway
if people would treat their medicine like medicine this wouldnt happen.
dont drive if your under the influence of anything.. could be an allergy med like benadryl could be an anxiety pill like xanax. cannabis is no different, it hits the same receptors, this is how it relieves anxiety etc.
just because its directly from a plant doesnt change anything...so is opium. we need to stop romanticizing this plant we use recreationally or medically. if it didnt alter your being you would have no desire to smoke it...like oak leaves...but it does, so as responsible folk we shouldnt drive while under the influence..and then they wouldnt be able to say it was a cause. if you want to legitimize the use you have to do it fully.

the way this whole topic is progressing saddens me.

ill die before i tell someone to use medical marihuana or marijuana whatever. isnt that slang? ugh people these days, it was so promising a few years ago.
now the new craze is putting bud between a hair straightener. we need to step back and pretend this is an actual medicine

end rant

I guess you would have to live in their shoes...
As for committing suicide ...Id BET most were due to bad Pharma made med!!
Every 15 mins someone dies as a result of a side effect,

sure...some meds help....but ALL Pharma made meds can and do kill people every day in the name of MONEY and there is no denying that..
cheers and thank you for your worthless ? opinion...

I think the pigs are jumping to conclusions. First of did this guy get caught on camera smoking a jay in his truck as he crossed the yellow line??? Did the pigs do a blood test etc to see the thc in the drivers system? Everyone know that canabis stays in heavy users (medical patients) system for 1 to 3 months so he might not have been impaired at all.... Hell he might have smoked a jay two weeks ago.... So before we all jump to conclusions we need more of the story.. Oh and I have used cannabis everyday for 12 years and have a clean driving record!!!! Maybe I'm just an exception but I think not....

why do you feel pharma made meds (and not others) kill people in the name of money? money..

really thats why people commit suicide, because of poorly made medicine?
yes i know the statistics youve said that already.. its 4 an hr or roughly 38k a year. nothing compared to the hundreds of thousands saved by phrmaceuticals every year..the number i gave was a couple years back...heres last year
  • There were 43,982 drug overdose deaths in the United States in 2013. Of these, 22,767 (51.8%) were related to prescription drugs.
  • Of the 22,767 deaths relating to prescription drug overdose in 2013, 16,235 (71.3%) involved opioid painkillers, and 6,973 (30.6%) involved benzodiazepines
i didnt feel like arguing into yiur 15 minute deal...drug abuse will always be present
Every once in a while gb you make sooooo much sense to me!...lol...

every once in a while.. gb, you almost make sense to me
i cant decide if your a loon conspirator or not

actually thats completely inaccurate. i get tested monthly and only abstain for 2 maybe 3 days for a pass, i could discuss this later if you like and explain. thats years old info spread to scare people. if he smoked a jay 2 weeks ago he wouldve been clean. whem you look at initial half life, bioavailability etc it makes sense as well. staying in system 2months isnt backed up at all...and i didnt say weed was the cause....

ya i have a perfect driving record as well. but i will not advocate smoking then or while driving. as i said in my previous post

Point taken, good post. My problem is that how did they test for that "impairment". Is it actual blood levels, piss tested for metabolites, or an actual impairment that was confirmed after the crash using road side methods similar to alcohol testing? (walk the line, touch your nose, etc)

more fear mongering...they didn't mention road conditions or possible lack of sleep..or how about simple human error. they HAVE to mention MJ just to shake it up or remind us of "demon weed"
no mention of possible alcohol...or fairy dust or flying cows

Yep! those fucking cops will use weed for an excuse every time and it's ALWAYS the first thing they mention so it's implanted in the (weak) minds of scared sheeple to begin with. I'm so tired of the lying bastards! Ugh!

its ultimately up to all of us to change the stigma....in peoples minds.....
I enjoy smoking one around people my parents age....so mid 70's to mid 80's....
they always have a ton of questions...and would probably try it if it was fully legal....
They finally see that you don't freak out....like they have been led to believe by propaganda...

Just wanted to pop in and say that as a relatively new RIU user, qwizoking is one of very few folks I see posting regularly who is consistently realistic and objective in his stated opinions. It's nice to see someone with the opinion of an actual responsible adult without his head flying in the proverbial pink cloud of "pot can do no wrong." On a cannabis forum, as that is a pretty rare occurrence.
