Wow the Conservatives just lost the next election! These extremist can't seem to understand that they are just splitting the cons vote ensuring that they will never have enough support to get into power again! And these morons can't seem to understand BC would never have allowed that pipe line to be built! Never mind joint their separatist movement, in fact Its only because the federal government stepped in that it is being built . And if Alberta separates from Canada, Canada or BC can stop the oil flow or take 92% in tariffs under international law! Good choice Albertans if oil goes to $150 and stays there otherwise you just fucked yourselves.
The group behind the political movement “Wexit” applied for official party status Monday, its leader said.
Downing said Wexit Alberta has three key aims: the unification of western Canadian provinces, elect members of parliament to legislate issues the directly impact the west, and to “bring Western Canadian nations to national forefront.”
Some criticism of the group has pointed to the Bloc Quebecois’ calls for sovereignty, which have never resulted in a successful bid to separate from the country. Downing countered that that party has been successful in other ways, including what some in the Wexit Alberta group deem to be unfair equalization payments. Quebec was the highest beneficiary of the equalization payment in 2019-20 at $13.1 billion in funds.
Too funny as oil becomes less and less valuable its Alberta that will need the equalization payments.
Alberta separation wouldn't solve problem of landlocked oil: expert
"You can imagine how that would play out up here if Alberta, Saskatchewan leave ... We've seen enough out of B.C. to know how that would play out," said Dade.
The British Columbia government has resisted, primarily through court actions, the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion that would triple the amount of crude shipped between Alberta and the Lower Mainland.
Add to that there is no real enforcement mechanism through the international court, Dade said.
"The only thing the ICJ gives you is the ability to go from saying, 'Please give us access' to 'Pretty please give us access."'

International trade experts say it's a pipe dream to think the landlocked oil-producing western provinces would have an easier time getting their product to international markets if they were to split from Canada.
