Many small plants or fewer large ones?

I have an 8 ft. x 8 ft. flower room, with plenty of headroom. I grow in soil in 5 gal pots and have always grown a few large plants in the space I have. I generally let my plants veg until they reach a height of around 16 to 20 inches befor I put them into the flower room. I can generally get 12 to 14 plants at a time in there and reap several ounces apiece, depending on strain.
My question is; would growing more plants in the same space in smaller pots and flowering sooner, say at 10 or 12 inches, increase the total yeild? I'm not interested in scrog, but a more of a sea of green method.
I've heard arguments for both, but never recieved a definitive answer ( if there is one).

thanks in advance

If you have adequate lighting, I doubt SOG would boost your harvest much. Plus, watering seems like it would become an even bigger PITA.

Yes, thats kinda what I thought. That also is one of the reasons I don't do scrog. I didn't think that there was a real difference, all things being the same, but I have had no experience doing it any other way than raising bushes. Thanks for the response, I appreciate it.

I don't like scrog just because I like to move my shit around. But I wouldn't overlook lst man, only way to go IMO.. But opinions are like assholes... So no need for everyone to beat me up for suggesting you LST lol.

I like to grow them big, little bigger than you like, but I love scrog! keeps canpoy nice n even, I strip everything fron the top of container to just below the net basically have about 1ft give or take of shrub. Gives me big fat nugs with very few baby nugs. I've run both ways and I get about same yield just much less popcorn. Its more a penitration and sweet spot for lums imo, I'm sure you can acheive similar with sog just get the meat of your plant in the sweet spot of your lights.

IMO if plant numbers concern you then sog is not the best idea, but if not, give it a run sometime with the strain you normally run so you have a baseline and see what works for your set up best, if done right, you shouldn't loose much if anything production wise, just make sure you have enought plants to fill up your normal canopy. You'll be able to cut back your veg time quite a bit, almost none needed, just make sure your mom(s) is big enough to take enough clones.
