you want to put a floro at least 1-2 inches away or it eill streatch and get a fan on so they dnt just fall over, they gotta sway in the breeze to build ther muscles to hold ther head up high

not gonna affect the growth. If its a sativa and you started at a foot you're gonna end up with 3 at least when its all said and done. keeping the light close will prevent stretching but its not gonna make a difference in the end product.

from what i have seen, keeping the flouro about 2 " above the plant will minimize vertical growth. the farther the light gets the more they stretch. that is why i like to see people using flouro's until the plant is about 1' tall. helps to get a shorter/bushier plant.

I don't get it. You're saying that keeping your light source "close" to your plants its gonna alter the genetics and make it grow shorter than it would if you hung your lights at a "normal" level ???? Have nooooooo idea how cfls work but i doubt they have that affect on plant life. I mean you gotta be kiddin me. The most intense, direct "light" you're gonna get is what ?????? Yeah the fuckin sun......you think it inhibits growth. Genetics predispose a plant to a certain height and stature. Now how you choose to manipulate said genetics with ARTIFICIAL light, flourescent at that, and with topping, super cropping, lst etc,et,etc......is up to the individual grower. But don't question my health, mental or otherwise because in your world a flourescent light can alter the genetics of a marijuana plant. I mean they do.....you should see what an hps does......much less the actual sun. o yeah man listen to the advice on this thread....just keep that good ole cfl right on top of your plant(not because you can, because you have to) and that baby will stay short for you.....whatever. Go buy a cheap 250 w hps....its worth it.

U are way confused there bud. We aint sayin cfl's or any other kind of floro's change any genetics of the plant, just that keeping them as close as possible will keep them from stretching like they're in a yoga class i.e.-KEEPING THEM SHORTER!!!
On to the hps, and the sun.... U have no idea what kind of lights i personally use, or anyone else, or if we use the sun, so who the hell are u to tell anyone they should see what a hps does? Just so u know, I run a 400w. hps in addition to 8 cfl's, my plants never see more than two feet of height and i got news for u, it aint cuz the genetics of the plant says so, it's because of proper light placement, and timing. Also, congrats my friend, u are finally aware that the sun is the most powerful light around!

if the lights are placed proper distance from the plant(ie: as close as possible without burning leaves) the plant will grow bushier with more bud sites in a smaller area.

Duuuuude.....both of you......I don't care where you "place your light" the determining factor in the eventual vertical growth of ANY plant is determined by either the GENETICS or how long you let it veg out. Any fucking idiot knows you gotta hang your light correctly. I run a 250 and I get my babies as cloooooose as I can without heat becoming an issue. Now if i top it or super crop it or lst blah, blah, blah THAT will affect height. LEFT ALONE TO VEG an indica or a sativa will grow to a specific height depending on where it started. Where you put your CFL doesn't matter. I can give you photographic evidence if you like mook.

Keep posting pics of your stretched plants etc. My only point was its not rocket science to figure out WHY a plant stretches........also no huge mystery that more light =better plant.
