Managing Humidity...Issue with my venting

Hi RIU,

So I found the cause of my low humidity issue. For one, it wasn't my room. What was causing it to stay at a RH of 20% was my carbon filter running. I was doing some work in my tent and had shut my filter off, forgetting to put it back on. After a couple hours my RH went from 20% to 63% (which ideally I'd like to get it between 50-60% during veg)..

How in the world can I stabilize my humidity but at the same time manage odor? Would a speed controller work? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Some info about my room if it helps:

Secret Jardin 5X5
1,000 Watt MH/HPS - Air cooled with 6 in fan controlled with a speed controller (Love the little gadget!)
ProFilter Carbon filter with pre filter - 4 in fan pulling
6 Females in the tent
Temps range from Day 75-85/Night 65-70ish

Thanks!

live somewhere more humid.... if your venting the air out then the air coming in is gonna be whatever your fresh air's temp/humidity is... i wouldnt say its entirely important to have high humidity... its more of an issue when its too high and you cant get it to go down, thats when you get mold... low humidity is good!

Usually you are not going to run into smell problems in veg. I keep my fan and filter off in veg, when i flower it goes on.

What is the humidity in the room the tent is in?

You ask if a speed controller would work, then you say you have a speed controller. What?

I have a 6" fan w/SC and keep it turned down to 20% to keep my grow room perfect temp, with full speed fan it gets too cool and humidity drops

Room ranges from 20-40 depending on the weather outside.

Controller is on my air cooled 1000 watt.. Comprende? Or would you like it explained differently?

i have another controller on its way so i can turn down my 4in on the carbon filter.

Well if the room humidity gets down to 20, you are sucking 20% RH air into the tent, and the only thing is raising it is the plants themselves transpiring water.

Here's the thing. I've tested that theory and no, it doesnt. If I shut the fan off the tents RH will rise from 20% to 55-65% and just sit at that level.

I'm going to throw a controller on that fan, turn it down and see if I can control the fluctuactions. I just need the humidity higher during veg. During flower I'm play with the drier climate in the tent. Will keep the mold at bay.

you might want to try humitifer in the room turning down your fan is going to raise temp and at 85 degrees your getting out the top of optuim degrees

ventilation doesn't make sense to me anymore for the same reason as you. things don't quite work with the humidity so low. i'm seeing that 1"/day growth instead of sickly and spiny. odor hasn't been an issue so far, i hope the extra humidity will dampen it haha.. dampen

Actually if I turn off the carbon filter, I've see my RH go as high as 85% before i through it back on. PLUS contrary to popular belief, my females that are in veg do indeed emit a smell and it will creep out into the condo, and its a very distinctive smell. Granted its not a smell like in flower but its there. If you're trying to be stealth then even in veg there are vulnerabilities.

I ordered another speed controller to turn down the carbon filter but I honestly think I'm going to bave to just throw in a humidifier.

put a humidifier right where your air supply vent is and turn down the fan... make sure you get a nice humidifier that boils the water and uses water vapor instead of the ones that spray a mist... also at the air supply get the blue air filter material from home depot, it will allow the moist air through and wick away the excess without getting moldy...

That is Super duper low humidity, like way too fucking low. You can google it as its late and I don't want to explain it, but it's really stressful on the plant to have that big of a vapor pressure differential

Anyways.. Nobody asked you.. Where is the tent located? If it is in an unfinished basement then just go to Home Depot or wherever and buy one of those patio misters. The kind that cool you off in the summer. Place it outside the tent with a fan on it. You will be raising the humidity to proper levels in no time.

Otherwise your going to need to plunk down a couple hundred on a commercial humidifier.

We use the misters on a timer in our bare bulb setup. They work well
