Malathion is dangerous indoors!

so i had to kill some leafhoppers in my grow. the natural stuff didn't work so i got some ortho malathion. i opened it up in a small room. it stank badly but in a couple minutes i closed the bottle. i used 2 teaspoons of this stuff mixed in 1/2 a gallon of water.

i was very careful to keep it off me and wore eye protection and was completely covered.

about an hour after spraying the plants, i felt normal but my vision got weird, like i was losing my sight in the periphery. it was all floaty.

i ran outside for a few minutes and it got better. thank you god!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i aired out the house for the rest of the day and night.

i was almost injured by my love of pot. i hate to think what would have happened if i took a nap.

i'm throwing that shit out.

i sure hope it killed the bugs.

fuck.

BE careful!

:)

Were you wearing a respirator? You probably inhaled fumes. I've sprayed houseplants before with white fly infestation but only outside.

i didn't think to get a respirator. i read the cautions that came with the product and nowhere did it say anything about using it in a well ventilated place. it didn't say anything about breathing it in so i didn't think about it.

once it happened, and i started searching - inhaling malathion - i felt pretty stupid.

what was shocking, was how little i used, and how much it affected me while sitting in a different room.

scary stuff, and the crappy news is, i think i saw one of the little fuckers flying around the grow room yesterday. i'm hoping it was a fungus gnat but i'm thinking, here we go again.

i never had bugs before i traded for a few clones. now i've been fighting the little monsters for months.

i went a month without seeing one of them. 2 weeks after putting the clones into the flower room, i saw 4 of them.

i will never bring another clone into my home without a thorough inspection.

Yeah, it doesn't take much. Any lesson learned without injury is a good one:) PS do you have any other house plants that you may have had outside and then brought in?

Just wrap a bandana or t shirt around your face you'll be good to go. No need on spending money on a respirator ;-)

Thanks for posting information on this, sometime I find I don't really think about what I'm doing until I've done it and it's nice to be reminded to take care. I remember reading somewhere that a bit of vinegar on a bandana is as good as a respirator.

ALWAYS wear PPG when working with insecticides. These chemicals are designed to interrupt living processes. A real respirator, eye wear, double layer gloves and long sleeve and pants. Get a drop on unprotected skin OR your clothing then you stop and go get clean now!

Just so you all know, this will not protect you from breathing in the vapors. Hence why you should get a respirator, especially if you have to hang out/work in the sprayed area. Peace!!
