Making Your Buds Change Color?

does anyone know of a way to force your buds to take on a certain color in flowering? I'm looking for a way to grow some purple or blue, maybe even pink buds with the strains i have on hand without reducing potency or giving them a shitty taste, I've heard of purple maxx, but thats just one of the colors i want. any info on this matter would be greatly appreciated, thanks

when growing in northeastern climates, if you have late flowering plants, ive found that they all turn colors. Seems to be the natural response to the end of fall, so if you copy that climate indoors you should have similar results very naturally.

If you can putt your plant outdoors for the night so it can get hit by frost it will change if it's the proper phenotype. a little bit of cold never hurt a plant when it's that ready. in fact it makes it more potent cause it goes into survival mode and produces more oils like water deprivation and stressing tekniques. And that's just the living plant , no promises it will stay that color after you cure it even if you do cure properly most go back to green even if the leafs and buds are purple. You might get the purple/ blue/pink hue if the buds are deep hues.

lower 60's mid 50's they can take. frost.. mmm i dont think so. shit freezes you got damage. cold does help a bunch but you need a purple strain or a purple pheno. its really all about phosphorus defficency, it was breed into cannabis for variety. most purple varieties dont really touch "regular" varieties because of the deficiency. blue pink purple, keep them healthy and if you have the right genitic your colors will show.

Actually it's got a lot to do with the chlorophyll lol just like how every other leaf tree changes color that time of year. Ever hear of the season we call autumn, and I'm speaking from years of outdoor experience when I say just let it get hit by frost to change the chlorophyll from green to red ,you must do this change gradually tho if it's indoor, I didn't say anything about killing or harming the plant just stressing it a bit to change the color that's all. mabey you should learn the benefits of stressing tekniques before you try to knock me " young grasshopper" I let my strains that Ive bred get hit with 3-5 frost before I harvest. I also developed a strain that's purple from the very start, from new plant day 1 the cotyledons are deep purple, all the way threw veg and flowering and curing. very deep purple stock, purple leaves and purple buds, Extremely potent outdoor strain.

Temperature
Cannabis can survive in temperatures ranging from freezing to 100 degrees but such extremes will slow growth and lower potency. For the best results during a plants day time keep temperatures between 70 and 85 degrees. At night aim for between 50 and 70 degrees. If heat becomes a problem try timing the light cycle to come on at cooler times like during the night. Using a thermometer with a min max setting will also make sure you are aware of temperature fluctuations that take place when you are not around..............the buds pictured never had a night temp below 55f. If you want purple get a purple variety. Yes cold does help with color and yes the plant can handle very low temps, but when you do that your causing damage anything below 40 cant be doing any good. are you that kung fu dude that killed himself jerkin off in the closet "grasshopper" .

Are you the guy that boils roots and puts a nail through the stalk? besides speaking from your own experiences do you have any scientific proof to back up your claims. And what do you mean your buds turn back to green after you cure them.?.

The purpling from the cold is from P deff caused by slow absorbtion not the phenotype. And if you put your plant in the frost it will hurt the plant and not make it more potent. proper care and the right strain will do that. Chilly temps for the last two weeks aids the process

lol... Doniawon is soooo correct lol i've had outdoor plants that weren't really ripe so i left them temps droped buds turned purp and the high was no way near the high like the plants that where harvested before the colder temps hit Stick u dank green buds if you put your plants into frost your better off getting some mexican shwag

Lower air temps for sure. You can also induce stress that isn't very "dangerous" by watering with cold water. I have seen color changes with cold watering without too much drop in air temps. MY cold water flushes were in the 50 degree range.

I dont care if this is old, some newbie is going to find some of this bad info and ruin thier plants. Temperatures just below 50f the last two weeks of flower brings out the fall colors in phenos that change color. Not all do. Thats all it is, fall colors just like trees outside. If your growing outside just let your plants get down in the mid to upper 40's. Do NOT let frost get your plants, that is 100% terrible advice and practice. Frost causes damage to cannabis, even though it can handle some cold cannabis is not cold hardy. Freezes kill the plant and the fallen seeds grow next year. Cold hardy plants go dormant then start growing again when temps remain above 40f for two weeks. Cannabis are not among these plants. Frost freezes trichomes and makes them brittle, this degrades the potency period. Just because the plant may put on a little new growth after that it does not make it more potent. Each time your plant freezes or frosts it causes damage. Like I said, cannabis is NOT cold hardy. Its a crop, does your tomatoes or corn come back the next year? No! Some seeds that fell may grow but the plant itself dies. Indoors temps just below 50f for the last two weeks will bring out fall color in strains that change color in fall. Again, not all do. Never store your buds in the freezer for the exact same reason. Glass jar, cool(not freezing) and dark is how you store buds properly.

Some interesting answers to be sure.
Some not so good either!

Coloring in plants can be expressed by lower night time temps......Allow the night temps to swing down 15F from your daytime average to begin simple color expression.
SEVERAL people are right about NOT allowing plants to hit a frost if at all possible! Temp drops bellow 55 BEGIN restricting P up-take and that will reduce yields and quality - VERY FAST when night temps drop below 50! The buds get airy and don't "plump" as they ain't getting enough "cooking" - lol You'll still get good smoke as their outside and your getting the added UVB - still far better to have them finish BEFORE lower then 50F. Yup finish before 50F night temps is best!

There is another way that natural coloring that maybe in the strains traits can be expressed. Higher K use! I like higher K levels all through out my grows! Not stupid amounts. a cpl a %age points in veg and then raising levels again in bloom... Say 3 more points (in bloom) to start and at like week 5 add another 3 points! This can express recessed coloring traits that can be from pinks to reds to oranges to blue and of course purples.
If you combine the 2 practices. You will get VERY strong expression!

"Stressing" by extended darkness or over/under watering. DOES NOT increase trich or terp production, nor will it express coloring with any quality! This is an ongoing MYTH!
