Magnet locks???

I remember hearing about these cabinet locks which you cant open the cabinet but then you have this "magnet ring type object" and you put it next to the lock and you can open it.

Anyone know of what im talking about here?

And were I can find one / proper name for them.

If like a key FOB, its a Dallas one wire. (electronics behind. Some tings don't need to be computer controlled)

In the 70's there was a rave of magnetic locks. But with a 4 'pin' x 2 (N&S) yields 16 possible combos. little security.
 
You may want to look into an electromagnetic cabinet lock. Just flip a switch and its locked or unlocked. I believe they provide around 80lbs of locking force. They come in 12v with a battery so you could easily hook it up to a small solar panel so you would have to worry about your door popping open if the power went out. You can also get them in door models that come with 1200lbs of locking force. However they are much more expensive and the power requirements are greater and the installation is harder.
