magnesium deficiency

Im currently working on plant number 3 and ive run into an issue that i didn't have previously. small yellow dots are forming on the lower leaves with one of the smallest bottommost leaves showing a dead tip thats "praying for magnesium" by pointing up. this little girl (l hope) is only about 6 inches tall and i just topped her about 3 days ago.

im wondering if i should change the watering schedule to try to get the epsom salts into the soil as quickly as possible. should i increase the number of waterings from once every 2 - 3 days to every 1 - 2 while reducing the amount of water in each watering? or should i stick to the normal watering schedule? i want to increase to give this baby more chances to absorb the Mg but im afraid of shocking her.

comments? suggestions? thanks!

Its a pretty hardy plant, she'll recover... I take it you are growing in soil and organically? Otherwise I would recommend a Cal/Mag product... Especially for hydro... :-) But in your case, don't change your watering schedule, make sure your pH is correct and see how she goes... :-)

shes growing indoor currently. im using some MG potting soil (never ran into any issues with it before but now that ive done some research i see its a little low on Mg) she gets natural sun through a south facing window - shes right on the sill now getting sun from dawn till dusk at which point i move her dirrectly under a low wattage 4 foot florescent bulb to try to keep her from going to sleep entirely ... she still gets a little droopy at night so i dont know if thats actually helping at all.

PH is a good point, i assume i can get some test strips for my tap water at a local fish store or something

Thanks!

Yeah, if you are not checking the PH of your water than it is most likely that and you should check that first. Also, some hard water is high enough in calcium to lock out MG. Mine definitely was. I bought a RO filter system and haven't had any problems since. An easier route would be to search epsom salts on here first.

I checked the PH of the soil and the tap water i'm watering her with, both were in a 6.5-7 range, which seems good? the soil test kit i bought also came with N K and P tests as well, all of which seem "normal" or in a middle range ... i know N is important but I'm not sure about the other two ... but since the test came with them i figured id go ahead and check, unfortunately there were no Mg or Mn tests at my local Lowes (lol)

as soon as my friend wakes up i'm going over to his house so i can get his digital camera to post pics to try to get some opinions. i'm sure those would help everyone help me :D

I'm sure I'm being overly paranoid about my one little plant but its my baby. my third try, the first two i rushed to flowering because they were tall and stemmy and i figured they were both males, which they were, but this one is looking nice and bushy (at least in comparison) and i want to take good care of her. like my name says I'm a recreational grower doing this mostly for hobby but if this plant is pretty and such i might want to keep her as a cloning mother and perhaps cut down on my consumption costs. :joint:

keep an eye out for those pics and thanks for the reads / replies :D

the other two are just as important , but even more important during flowering, if ur worried about fertilizing , go with the alaska fish emulsion 5-1-1 for veg, and alaska morbloom 0-10-10 for flowering . it wont burn your plants, all organic. just remember to flush with plain water the last 10 days of flowering and good luck

so even if N seems normal i should still fert during veg with some high N fert? i pilfered some 24 8 16 all purpose plant food from the garage back home when i was over there, i could use that till i get some better stuff if you guys think thats good for now

PS what kind of PPM should i be shooting for for N for veg?

ok so after reading around and noticing that alot of first time growers can hurt their plants by overtreating etc i tried to stay laid back about this whole "magnesium deficiency" that my plant is experiencing, and it was looking like she was going to overcome it, but now the hairs on the stems to fan leaves are turning slightly reddish. while the tips are no longer pointing up, yellow spots are still forming on leaves on multiple levels of nodes, but without the distinct "still green" veins. im sure im not over watering her, ive double checked drainage, and im growing more and more concerned for my baby.

if this ISNT Mg def, what else could it be (i know pics would help but i dont have a camera :wall:) thoughts anyone? if no one can think of anything in a few hours im administering some Epsom salts pronto
