Bought a used Pentax K-30 for myself for Christmas and have been fooling with my old (70's) lenses in the manual
mode. Looking to buy a 1:1 someday soon so I can take pictures of flowers, bugs and trics.

Keep up the good work and have fun.

You will see, when you start shoot macro, you always want more magnificence , start with 1:1, not enough, after 2:1, still not enough, now i'm 4:1 and that's not enough, next will be 10:1 and i'm fucking sure that will be not enough again ahahah

If you have any question or something on macro photography , ask me and i will try to answer the best !

I don't use a microscope, actually i have a nikon d7200 with macro lens of venus ( 60mm with a 2:1 magnificence ), If i add some extension tube, i have 4:1 magnificence . Mitakon synoptics have a lens with 4,5:1 magnificence , and if you add extension tube you can have 13,5:1, i don't find information about this lens but i'm really interested by this one. But if you have money, you can buy a canon with their awesome lens mp65mm with a 5:1 magnificence . Actually that's the only one that have this magnificence without add other stuff.

I plan to buy some microscope lens, but they are really expensive ( with high quality and sharpness) an i need to buy other stuff for mount that type of lens...that's for the future. My next step is to buy a motorised macro rail for stacking !

Macro photography is a crazy world, if you have question ask me, i will answer the best i can !

I have an old Minolta 35mm from over 30 years ago. Haven't used it in years, bought cheaper digitals for family pics over the last couple decades.

I did buy several lenses back in the '80's.

Is this a good macro lens? I'd love to buy a modern Minolta digital, I have 6 lenses that I could mount and soon will have lots of spare time to get back into it.

I'm assuming a photography expert such as yourself could give an opinion based on the numbers maybe as to the macro capabilities?

You have it since 30 years ? wow awesome ! I think this lens is not for trichome photography, 1:4 magnificence isn't enough for that, but for bud photography that can be nice. I think if you put old lens on new minolta, the quality won't be super perfect. The actual sensor of camera are really nice and maybe you will see the micro default of the lens.

Are you sure your lens fit on modern minolta ? I don't really know this brand.

It's better if you buy some actual lens. You can take some second hand, what budget do you have ?

I just assumed old Minolta lenses would mount on a modern Minolta digital, but I actually don't know.

I have high hopes that they will since I have I few that I would love to use again.

I never shot macro photography 30 yrs. ago. But I'd like to try it now.

If 1:4 isn't enough, what would be? As far as budget, I can swing a new camera and a macro lens, maybe. But I have to research and make sure I can use the old lenses. It seems like a waste to let them sit around without trying to buy something I can use them with.

I will check if you can fit your lens on new minolta, do you have an idea of what camera you want ?

The magnificence depend of what you really want to see on your image. You can have a magnificence of 1:1 with a macro lens . That's enough for trichome for beginning, but you won't have one trichome that take all the photo. After you will need a tripod and some remote for have sharpness on your image. More you shoot with high magnificence more problem you have to deal with.

Imagine that you have 20 million pixel on your sensor, just when you take a picture, push on the button, you 'll move a little bit the camera with you fingers, and that's enough for have a blurry photo.

I invite you to check this website with lots of information : http://extreme-macro.co.uk

I totally agree with you, if you can use your lens , that would be better, i will check during this week.

Enjoy that little one, and check my journal for more informations !

@tangerinegreen555 I check if your lens are compatible with new minolta camera and they are, but you need to buy a ring and put between your camera and your lens, for mount it. You will loose all automatism and must shoot in manual mode. I read that if you put analog lens on digital camera , the result are really bad, i don't see some example but i think that's true. You can work with old and new material, but finally the image won't be what you want to see.

If you say me your budget i can help you to enter into macro world with advise material. But for start you need to know with how magnificence you want to see your trichome.

For me that's never enough, always want to have more and more...

Little video that i made for fun, not too bad i think...

Hello everybody !

It's been a long time that i don't come here and i'm sorry for that. My job take me too much time, i work often by night and it's hard for me to do everything. I would love to quite that fucking job and do what i want with my photography. It's hard for me to improve the photography because i don't have lot of time for that, i'm always tired.

I need to finish my grow journal. I receive a micro rail with a motor, so now i start to stack and it take lot of time for me to understand that new toy. I shoot 8000 picture (lot of fail) in one month and now i edit all of that photography and it take me lot of time too.

So here some picture i shoot during that month, no stacking for the moment because i don't finish to edit everything.
