Lurker Surfacing

Yes, it's true, I've been lurking this sight, even before I signed up. This is my first post here. I am a veteran of over 1200 posts on the Shelby Forum that I spend most of my time on. But I'm ready to take the Newbie hazing that usually comes with the Newbie status.

I want to say, I love this site, and have already learned some things that were helpful. I have some questions that I would greatly appreciate answers to.

1) I plan to grow my little babies outside. This time of year the days can be fantastic, but the temperatures at night can dip down to a point that concerns me. I have been bringing them in at night. What are the upper and lower temperature limits?

2) I plan to fertilize my babies with Miracle Gro Tomato Food. Should I mix it according to the directions, Mix it weaker, Mix it stronger, and at what age do I start fertilizing?

3) Is there an advantage to constructing a grow house in a closet with grow lights, over growing outside? In other word, are Grow Lights superior to the Sun?

4) At what height do I pinch the top off? This is a new concept to me, I have never done it that way before, or any of the friends I've known who grew. We were always proud of how much height we got out of the plant. I know that pinching encourages a bushy plant, and that would see to be preferable to a tall tree plant. Again, at what height do I start the pinch?

I guess that's all for now, I apprecite the help.

Toke On!

I can tell you are new to growing, too. It shows.
1) As long as temps are 45+ F at night you should be fine. If it dips below then get 3 or 4 gardening stakes, put them around your plant(s) and put a WalMart bag over the stakes. It is called "tenting", new term for today kiddies.
2) Miracle Grow is the bane of a lot of consumers. What you want to use is for tomatoes, never tried smoking them. Use nutrients for cannabis, you'll be happier. Start fertilizing after first transplant, LIGHTLY! Mix according to what your plant needs, again, you aren't raising tomatoes and some plants do not like being overfed.
3)The sun is always a superior light source. Your reading should have told you that if you couldn't glean it from the fact that light spectrums are rated against solar output.
4)Personal preference. Since most varieties go on a growing spurt at flowering and often double in height. So, if your growing area has a 8' ceiling your plants can only be 5' tall or so because of needed space for light clearance, pot height and so on. Top accordingly.

No, indoor light is in no way better than the sun. What makes indoor growing good is that you control the environment. No rain, no super strong winds, no plunging temps or sky rocketing temps, etc. You are the God of your grow room and can make your world how you choose.

Damn, I hate those Gamer Spammers. On my other Forum, the monitors bounce them out, but not before we shredded them. I am thankful for the tips so far. Keep them coming. I'm not real clear about the Tomato Food. Should I follow the mixing directions and how often should I feed? Thanks.
