Lucas Formula, Initial stages and Dosage

I had a question a bout the Lucas formula:

Here is how its said to be used:

"General Hydroponics makes a 3-part system named the FLORA series. It consists of FLORA GRO, FLORA MICRO, and FLORA BLOOM. These are 3 bottles you buy, that you would normally use together throughout the entire grow. You may use it as per the instructions on the bottle, with excellent results, but...

Lucas figured out that FLORA MICRO contains enough nitrogen, and everything else that MICRO GRO contains, that you use it with FLORA BLOOM alone, saving you from having to buy FLORA GRO.

How do you use it? Simple. Add 8ml of Flora Micro (dark red stuff) to 1 gallon of water*, mix, and then add 16ml of Flora Bloom (pink stuff) into the water, and mix. Done - unless you're growing in coco. If so, see below."

(Dosage)

If I have a 5 Gallon DWC bucket and fill it to 4 Liters, do I need to 4 liters of the solution?

It says 8ml of micro and 16ml of bloom to one gallon of water.

So with the 4liter that i am using in DWC, I would need 32ml Micro and 64ml of Bloom??

Is there anyway I can just do it with PPM numbers, so i know exactly what I need per liter?

(Seedling stage)

I will germinate in soil and once the first set of true leaves show, I will transplant directly to the the hydroton

It is the only method I can do. Is this a descent method?

(Dosage for seedlings)

I have read for the seedling stage to use 50% strength of Lucas. Is this the right way do it? Is there a PPM chart for Lucas

Is there a standard method for the seedling to Veg stage stage in the medium?

Do I need to top water the first week in the bucket, until the roots reach the water or is the water precipitation from the oxygen enough to feed the plants?

Thank you so very much for the input

Here's how I understand it, but I haven't done this yet though I did read up on plenty of Lucas's stuff.

1 Gallon rounded up is 3.8 liters, so assuming you didn't catch what you posted... 8ml of micro and 16ml of bloom to one gallon of water - you wouldn't multiply it by four, since it's one GALLON not liter. As far as the PPM measuring, I'm a total newb and I wouldn't know without checking.

For the seedling stage, rockwool cubes are probably going to be your best bet since they can be transplanted cube and all into the hydroton, no mess, no shock. Lucas suggests 1.5" cubes for this, but again I have yet to actually use this method so someone else can confirm or comment on this.

Here's what Lucas says about nutes, this is in reference to a DWC setup using a tub rather than a bucket though.

"First, use a tub that is large enough to delay the need for a change out of nutes to a 10-14 day interval. This will also mean your daily water loss will not be more than 10% of the total nute volume, which means your pH will remain in a safe range (5.3 to 6.3), and your tds will not go too high.

Next, use a nute strategy that involves topping only with water, instead of constantly mixing and adding fresh nutes for the topping solution. I suggest General Hydro nutes at 0grow-8micro-16bloom in milliliters per gallon as the mix for established, 12" tall clones with well developed root systems. For smaller plants and newly rooted clones I suggest 0-5-10.

If you use this system you MUST replace the entire nute mix once you have added an equal volume of water to the tub. So if you are adding 1 gallon per day to a 10 gallon tub, you replace everything after 10 days and start with a fresh batch of nutes."

Some people set up hoses that feed water supplies over the hydroton, but I've also read that you want the water level to reach around the bottom of your basket cup. Once an expert chimes in we'll find out what works best though, just giving you my knowledge on the subject for the time being.

I used this link when I was learning about DWC and will probably still reference this once I get around to trying it. Hope this helps out a bit!

Ok it still does nto asnwer my question.

I am using a 5 gallon DWC, how much Lucas do I put in.

(8ml/12 ml to gallon) X 5 in the bucket

I'm not clear whether you're talking about gallons or liters. They're not interchangeable terms. If you're using 1 gallon (not liter), you need 8ml of micro and 16ml of bloom. If you're using 2 gallons, you need 16ml of micro and 32ml bloom. Good luck to you.

just make sure to keep an eye on the ppm's...

Seedling Stage 100 -150 ppm
Small plant stage 200-400 ppm
go full strength(8/16ml per gal) after that should be ok imo.

Actually you asked like 7 questions, and I did manage to answer a couple of them. Perhaps I should have stopped at that but figured I'd give what info I could since nobody else had answered at that time. -Peace
