LST?? but why??

i keep seeing more and more threads about LST. clearly it doesnt hurt the plant but does it help?? higher yields, stronger bud, etc??

it has nothing to do with potency.. its more of a way to manage plants in small areas and maximize light getting to budsites.

I read that it redistributes hormones, & makes the top budsite no longer dominant, so the plant produces more budsites all along the curve. I'm just a noob, but I think it boosts the yield in addition to managing the size of the plant & the light it gets.

Topping also increases yield. I'm no expert, but I think the main goal of both methods is to get more colas. Both methods are also used to keep the plant short.

Helps keep the plant in control, gets light to new sites and avoids cutting fan leaves . The latter people have big issues with. STOP CUTTING YOUR FAN LEAVES! Just tuck them. Its not hard and it doesn't hurt the plant

If you give the plant everything else she needs when she needs it, then your yield will depend directly on the amount of light she gets. Once you've bought as many watts as you can afford, the next improvement will be in the way the plant's canopy is arranged under that light.

LST is a technique for canopy management. The idea is to train the plants so that as many leaves get as much light as possible. People use a variety of canopy shapes. Many go for a flat bed of colas all the same height. I have been using an open vase shape which is traditional for fruit trees. LST can be used together with pruning and topping.

As plants grow they naturally move their branches to get to the light and sometimes find themselves pushed around obstacles etc. The idea behind LST compared with other more aggressive techniques is that you stay within the plants' natural ability to respond to changes and in this way it wont waste time responding to trauma or shock.

Super cropping I think. The buds at the top get the most grow chemicals, so bend them all down; lot's of little "main buds"
LST keeps an even canopy is all

thanks for all the info. so basically the purpose of LST is to keep your plants smaller while still producing the same amount of buds as a taller plant would by distributing the light more evenly??

If you want to control the height of your plant, you can use LST together with topping, but LST is more general than that. It's a method for shaping the plant and is mostly done to ensure the plant gets as much light as possible.

actually, this is 100% correct as far as i know. topping does essentially have the same affect, but at the cost of some growth and shock to the plant. by fastening the top node under the others via lst, you are redistributing the natural auxin build up that occurs in the top of the plant. this makes the plant less apically dominant, allowing for bushier more evenly distributed growth
