LST advice?

I am doing an outdoor grow and wanted to experiment with some LST. The plan was to have two plants growing horizontal towards each other along the top to maximize space.

The problem is that the small one in the back, after making it to 5 weeks old, doesn't look as though its going to reach the top of the cage.

My question is, should i lower the side the bigger plant is on to about one foot (the top of the middle ring on the tomatoe cage) thus creating a 45° angle, instead of letting it grow to the top where it is now and then going horizontal with it? This is an older pic, but the bigger one has already reached the top of the cage. Or should I leave it alone?

Are these outside for this summer? If so you don't have a whole lot of training time left... I'd let them do their thing, take the top off even. If you had pinched and topped here and there, an even bushy canopy would've been possible. My 2¢.

Yeah, this is there home until harvest. Should have about 5 weeks left for veg. I have seen this spot grow a 6 foot plant in two and a half months of veg. Thanks for the advice about topping, but I really don't like to top them due to the narrow space.

Good info man. I looked it up too, and its helpful to my current scenerio. I have been studying up on scrog in hopes of making my 1st go at it. Hey, while i got your ear, when did you start training (topping, lst'ing)in yr past experiences?
I begin to lst when my plants have about 4-6 nodes then I'll top them 3-4 weeks after I've lst'd. You don't want to do both at the same time since it'll induce a bit too much stress IMO

Forget the screen and apply a technique called " stemming " , as the branches grow and bud sites become pronounced , you can gently / firmly bounce the branches downward to " open " plant up. This method is Very Low Stress , if done right and occasionally . You are NOT trying to " bend or crease " the branch but to have it worked to expose inner plant. I have done this instead of LST , or Supercropping , and looks to be a good fit for your grow to keep available season on schedule. I agree you may squeeze in a " TOP " or two while your at it.

Thanks guys for all the input. The screen isn't there for a scrog. I was letting it grow, and then would have cut a hole, for the top to grow through. I ended up moving it down to create a 45° angle and supercroped the main stem. The supercrop didn't slow it down a bit. Keep hearing talk as though I have little veg time. With 4 more weeks until perflower and then flower stretch, it should get to be 6+ feet. Im happy with that. I am doing a bit of an experiment and want to avoid topping and stick with LST this grow.

I will post some pics tomorrow. Thanks again.
