hey guys..i heard awhile back about CFL's and how i should make sure that the wattage isn't the wattage equivilant...so before i heard this, i went and bought 2, 60 watt CFL's (their wattage equivilant is actually about 14)

my question is: can i grow any bud at all? i've got 8 plants under these lights...only 2 are sprouted (i planted the other 6 later) so basically, i'm working with like 28 watts....will it just take longer to grow or will it not at all??

plz help,
thanks in advance :hump:

The low wattage bulbw will produce very low lumens, they will grow but very poorly. the lumens won't (directly) affect the speed, just the quality of the plant. My advice is to go buy about 10-15 more of those globes for your 8 plants. or of course fewer higher wattage cfls.

well i compared the lumenens to other bulbs (like halogen lights) and the lumenens are only like 100 less for the bulbs i have...is this a big difference?

you want a TON more light if possible. the ones you have should be put as close to the plants as you can without touching for now. you want something like 6000 lumens per square foot. you really ought to check out the cfl's section. did you pay attention to the spectrum?
because if they are......cool white? cfl's the plant barely uses that wavelength of light and are useless.

or so i've read.

well i'm keeping the lights 2 inches above all of the plants..and no..i didn't pay attention to wavelengths...would that be on the package or something?
and if it's any hint of whether or not they work, 2 of the plants (the ones i planted first) are pretty well sprouted...they have 4 big leaves and a bunch of tiny ones in the middle

your results will be ok for a little while, a very little while until the plant size will mismatch the light output
most growers seem to find the 26w(actual wattage) cfl's the minimum size to work with
these are quite inexpensive at walmart, home depot, etc.
