To be honest, a North facing slope isn't going to be ideal, as it will be the hillside that gets the least amount of light. If it's a fairly tall hill, and the plants aren't pretty much right near the top, when Fall comes your plants will get very little light when they need it the most.

ok.....but that dosn't fully answer my question how long should i keep my plants in the window seal be fore they will be ready to put outside

Just until the weather is warm enough. Night temps below 50 degrees and your girls will not like it. Ideally, you don't want temps below 60 degrees at night and 85 degrees during the day. Depending on where you live this could be anytime between the first of April to the last part of May.

But how long do i keep them in the window seal how many hours a day untill i put them outside!?!?!?!?!?

Well, seedings need about 18 hrs of light a day, so if they are getting good light there and there's so cold draft blowing on them, there's no reason to move them. Unless the neighbors can see them.

just put them outside and let them grow. dont water everyday, more like every 2 or 3 days so the roots grow down for water and the plant will get bigger, DONT WORRY ABOUT THEM, let them do what there made to do and grow, post pics. :bigjoint:

DONT put them on a 24/0 light. Especially if you are putting them outdoor. leave them in the window and they will grow the way they are supposed to.

When the tempuratur stays above 15C or 45F then plant them outdoors. make sure they are close to a water source or that there is lots of healthy vegitation around your planting area. this will ensure you that the land your planting on can support life. unless your going to go up and water every couple days?

otherwise good luck.

I agree on not exagerating with the 24h cycle, better off with 16/18, you must be careful not to confuse your little babies with changing light cycles, I've done 24 before and had no problems but you must then acclimate the plants to the following light cycle without confusing them, do it gradually, that said, window sills are great for acclimation, there is usually a little draft and this toughens them up a bit, you can expose them to full light even now, just make sure that you keep on eye on them, you'll see that they respond fine, yeah, and don't overwater, does more harm than good, a northern slope? I hope it's on the crest, but we can't always choose the position... I know that very well, wait till temps are in the low 50°s min 45° before transplanting and keep an eye on the local foliage and flora, this will also help you guage when to bust a move outdoors! I can't wait myself, I'm germinating in 2 weeks ;)...,

good post Stoopie! i agree with you! try to follow what the sunlight time length is, lets say end of april, first of may( when I do it) and set your timer accordingly. this is the method I use every year and works out good for me with a nice crop in the fall!

Lookin good after 11 days, I would not be too worried about the light yellow on that one seedling, could be a nutrient deficiency but if all the other plants are fine and you are using the same medium then that is not the problem, could be a trait in that particular plant, she'll be fine, DO NOT use fertilizers at this stage, not a good idea, just use regular water, any chemical "corrections" this early can be deadly as the plants are so small, some people use distilled water in this phase ( I don't know why considering that it is deprived of any type of nutrients) The best is aquarium water! That's what I germinate with.

Just wait till all the cold weather is gone and no more cold fronts will be coming through that make the temp drop below 45F , Like the post said before. You can just keep them in the window seal or put them under your CFL at night, but is not necessary if 18hrs of light is received in the window. So keep an eye on the weather forecast in your area for the next month or so and when the temp. is right, put them outside.

Also, when you transplant them outside you can put them in direct sunlight since they sat in that window seal and got used to the light, but they will transpire water out of it and dry out. I use a Transpiration spray called "No Wilt". It locks the moisture in the plants so the direct hot sun will not dry it out as fast. Check them the first couple days to make sure they make it outside alright and then let nature take its course, with of course a little help from you along they way.

And lastly, the north facing hill is not the ideal place to do it. You can, but will not produce to its fullest. South facing hills or plots are what you want. In the northern hemisphere, the sun will move southward in the sky as the year progresses on to fall. So if you plant on the NORTH facing hill you will lose a good amount of light right as they start to bud. My theory for spot picking is an opening that allows the sun to come through from 90 degrees (sun directly overhead) to 45 to 55, or so, degrees and south facing.

The yellow plant, i agree with you on the Nitrogen deficiency. Maybe a mild fert. with high in N, every other watering for a little while til in goes away, if it worsens, then that's not the problem and you will have to try something else.

But good luck and remember to post pics along the way.

you can always set them outside to get use to your climate and then bring them inside to chill during the night, but I wouldn't recommend the cfl lights. Then when the weather starts getting better ( we still have snow on the ground :/ ) plant em outside in 2x2X4 holes with FF ocean soil and you should get some monsters. GL plants look real healthy
