Loosing Smell

My first grow and has gone very good. Thanks to all the info and members on rollitup. When I hang my buds to dry they are loosing their smell after a day. Still very stoney but doesn't smell like anything when on the plant or right after trimming. The steps I have been taking are.... When ready, cut, trim, hang. Usually a couple days untill the buds are crispy to the touch and the stems still soft. Then I start curing on a 12/2 or a 24/4 burp cycle depending on how full the jar is. But before I even start to cure the smell is already gone and doesn't return during the curing process. Any thoughts?

I did more searching and i'm going to try and dry 1 day less and burp for an extra hour or so. I havn't had the smell come back the same even after a couple weeks of curing with previous buds. Thanks anyway.

some strains believe it or not.. just don't have much of a smell at all to begin with. Its just the genetics of the plant..

also.. I've notice that a lot of people tend to automatically think that what they're growing.. is going to end up smelling like the sacks that they get off the streets. Well, this isn't true. In fact.. much of the time.. the smell is quite different. The reason behind that.. is that your dealing with plants that have better genetics than whats available on the street. That smell is actually something of a lesser quality product... that we've all learned to notice and love. But the fact is.. is that same smell is the smell of lesser quality genetics/product.

Hmm, well don't feel so bad that mine didn't just carry some dank smell now. Mine smoked great just never had the smell

Jsaleen, How full is the mason jar when you fill it?

This cannot be the same guru that I've seen giving good advice, because this is the second BS response I've seen.... Your weed lost it's smell from drying out too fast. I use hygrometers to keep an eye on the moisture levels as I dry and cure. I always get my dank smell back, and I'm not working with "street" genetics as the Guru would have you believe

You are either burping way too long or are jarring too late, or, you haven't given it enough time.

Guru, you need to lay off of whatever it is you aren't smoking, cause this is the second worst answer I've seen you provide.

i notice some strains cure differently.
i have a sativa strain that likes to get a bit crispy before jarring, and while another indica likes to be jarred while still kind of gummy. ive also experienced trimming either before or after has an effect on aroma.
try playing with these variables to find the way to go.

I agree about early harvesting diminishing the smell, the terpines need to fully develop, or you get what smells like grass, like regular grass.

Thanks again for the advice. I too was thinking it was drying to fast. By the 3rd day of drying I jarred em up. A smell does come back but not the same as it did on the plant. I am trying something new. I took one batch and put it directly in the jar 3/4 full and left the jar open. They still feel pretty moist as expected but the smell is still there.

Yeah I am not a big fan of this "Guru" guy... I;ve seen him post and has come off as a pretty "smart ass" to other users on the website with less knowledge. Honestly his replies and answers are shit BTW.

Listen to serapis... Use hygrometers.. I found mine at petsmart fuck ordering online and it's the same price lol... At 70% RH put your buds into a jar and slowly burp them down to where you enjoy your smoke. From 70%-50%RH is your window for cure... If you get below 50% the cure stops and you can't get it back. I actually have this little study going right now.. I dried 1 plant to much and it's at 47% RH... No smell has returned or came back.. I took one plant at 70%RH started slowing burping it down. It sits at 65% RH right now and fucking reaks just like on the plant..

You also don't want to dry to fast. Keep your humidity in your drying room around 40-45% to let it have a slower dry. Easiest way to raise your humidity is put a fan in there and soak a towel dripping wet and hang it in there. Thats how I got my buds to dry in 6 days, otherwise they would have been dried in 2-3 days just like plant number 1 at 47%RH.

I did alot of research for my harvest this time and only took in the GOOD advice, well fuck it works! Don't listen to morons.
