ok i now have an area to grow in but i want to build a sound proof room and grow in there.

doesn't have to be sound "proof" just need it to kill any fan noise.

i've read into building sound proof rooms online. But those all use sheetrock and i was looking to use like chipboard (cheap pressed plywood)

i just wanted to know if this is going to cause more echoing and vibrations than sheetrock would?

also any tips you guys have on insulation to use... and other sound deadening tips.

peace

use a few layers of eggcrate foam mattresses that you can buy at walmart- some ppl have used that for cheap diy sound proofing.

that is actually a great thing to use... a bumpy surface like that sends sounds waves in all different directions, breaking the waves up.

can i put them in the walls? or should i just plywood the outside... and then use the eggcrate padding for insulation and then cover that in white poly? was going to cover both sides with plywood.

Either way should work... as long as it is in between your room and the area you don't want hearing what's up you should be fine.

put down a 2x6" sill and top plate. stagger 2x4's so that sheetrock is touching the inside of the room, use the 5/8" flame retardant drywall, insulate with r-19, then put whatever material u want on the outside. the 4x8 sheets of 3/4" foam have an r-5 value. fans, get inline ones not squirrel cage, can be hung from bungy cords. the fans can even have a sound box built around them if needed.

thanks. i wonder if just building insulated boxes for my fans would be enough? that is all i am worried about is fan noise since i will have 2 400 cfm exhausting my cooltubes and another 400+ cfm exhausting the whole room. along with a rotating fan circulating air which i'm not worried about.

don't skip security steps. once u get the noise down, then u will hear oscillating fans, pumps and ballast hum. a sealed room helps with smell issues and keeping negative pressure inside the grow area.
