Looking for lighting advice

Hi guys
I’m a DIY grower. Looking for some advice. I haven’t grown in about 5 years.
i have a cabinet about 2x3 and 4 foot high.
I’ve only grown with my homemade cfl light with 10x 42 Watts
I use what I learned as bubbleponics from Roseman about 11 years ago.
I’ve done 6 grows in this setup and usually get about 6oz
I’m growing in an air conditioned room with no real worries about being stealth
If I had to I could ventilate into the garage.

I see a lot of people using leds.
Would those work muchbetter in this cab?
Would they create heat issues?

Would it be worththe trouble of stepping up to an mh/hps?

Would I need to ventilate into the garage?

LEF is far cooler and emits very little heat.
I have 2 spider farmer lights and the only real heat is from the drivers on top, so I have a fan blowing on them to keep cool :)
Personal choice it seems to be.
I see some long timers hating on LED, while some others swear by it..
 
What would I need in a 2x3? A 1000 watt? They got a nice sale on them on amazon right now.

Yessir, I got the S1000 & S2000 in a 4x4
1000 is rated for a 2 x 2
Check SpiderFarmer site directly too, I got the S2000 for 30$ cheaper than Amazon was running

How far from the plants would these lights need to be and how much clearance do you need above the light? I only have about 2 ft above the top of my plants. Is that Enough?
 
What's your budget? This would kick ass. I would dim it a lot in there, and if you ever get a taller grow space, you could really take advantage of the power of these things. The new 260's also have the new XLG drivers that have an included potentiometer. I was stoked on my last order to see that.

The Beauty of going from cfl to any almost any other light source is you just wont need anywhere near the wattage you currently use and you should be able to increase your yield by a chunk too.

18" is about standard distance from tops to light, so you should be fine.

Around 180w of good white LED will be plenty in flower. 50% ish in veg.

They are usually built for 2x2,2x4,3x3 or 4x4 spaces. So with a 2x3 you can either o with a 260w kit like above and dim it, or buy the board and heat sink and get your own 200w XLG driver.
Or build your own from scratch using strips.

i was actually looking at the sf2000 which runs just under $300 so budgetwise that is right where I want to be.
Do you think is that Much of a leap from spider farmer to HLG?
Do those also come completely assembled?

I’m also considering building a new cab mainly for extra height.
Is that something That would make a huge difference in my yield?

Well the assembled HLG would be $338 after the promo code. I wouldn't hesitate to spend the extra $38 if it was me. I'm all about quality.
 
I love cabinet grows man! In order to achieve 40 watts per square foot in a 2x3 you would need approximately 240 watts, assuming even coverage. You don't necessarily need it, but it is nice to have the power under the hood and be able to dim as you please. If you remote mount the driver, you can get another inch or two of clearance as well as control heat a little better, and probably don't need to vent to the garage. I definitely recommend the HLG kit with the dual R specs. I looked far and wide for lighting and decided it was worth the extra few beans as well. Nothing wrong with saving up a little longer and doing more research too buddy. Good luck and cool cabinet!

So you think the quality is that much better with the HLG?

I was kind of thinking the specs looked almost the same?

The couple of dollars is not An issue at all. Really I was thinking more about the ease of having it come all put together but I have no problem putting it together if it is worth it.
Are you saying I could mount the driver above the cab?
I would imagine that would help quite a bit with heat in the cab?

The only one HLG has in stock right now is the assembled one. That's the one I'm talking about. You don't have to do shit, but order it, lol.

If you do, don't forget to use "RIU10".

You can absolutely mount the driver inside or outside the cab and mounting it outside will absolutely help with heat issues. HLG offers a service to prewire the kit as well for $20 or $30. You could ask them to wire it up for a remote mount and give you some extra wire on it. If you can spend $400, you can also get the HLG 300L commercial grade unit, but most people go the kit route it seems.

The specs are the same but the HLG is third party tested to prove those specs and the other isn't.

You can mount the driver outside, you may not need or want to since your going from far more wattage to less.
The extra heat might be useful, plus you want to aim for 80-85f with LED.

As for assembly , its a 5 minute job.
