Looking for Guidance on making Rosin with my press, and turning that into Vape Oil

One thing I heard is that being able to do this without additives is tough to do and strain dependent. Some strains will be thin enough to put directly into a CCell cart after decarbing, and others may need to be thinned some. I wouldn't be opposed to thinning with a few drops of terpenes or even a quality vg/pg blend...a few drops would be better than the 50% most have.

I also think alcohol extraction is probably the more practical way to go, and I'm hoping maybe a mix of the 2...decarbed rosin and distillate.

Is there a specific tek you will try for that or the rosin to vape oil? There are so many methods I've looked at, such as using the syringe filters, slow and low decarb, mixing terps or not (idealy would be good to avoid) and recombining different rosin runs, and various decarb methods....

Soon, I am hoping to try to make flower into rosin into vape oil. Also I will try to make vape oil distiliate with ethyl alcohol.
But which tried and true, clear and simple teks to use???

I just came across this article today on turning rosin into carts...Basically it's saying decarb and add up to 15% terps, and to be sure to use a micron bag to squeeze from. A few people have told me rosin from bubble hash makes the best carts. I think it is going to be very strain dependent.


There is loads of info on making distillate on line...I would read as much as you can...That's what i have been doing anyways!! Dry ice is key for removing fats I believe. The one time I made distillate I did the entire filtering process in a large foam cooler with a bed of dry ice, and everything, my materials, tools and alcohol were all chilled ahead of time.

I'm a bit confused about purging the alcohol step... I wonder if this type of device is helpful?

It is helpful in that it's faster.

I made a couple of funnels out of 2 liter pop bottles and used coffee filters in them, and I did my filtering right inside a large cooler with dry ice. It took like 30 minutes to go through the filters but I was in no hurry, and it worked great...I wound up with a beautiful golden colored wash....But yes, a Buchner funnel is on my "to buy" list.

I just picked up a used Buchi rotavapor last night to help with the process

Yes, for removing the alcohol at low temps while also recovering the alcohol to re-use.

So I guess this is a super important tool for ethyl extraction. Any other important stuff? I got a hot plate and magnetic stirrer too...

No it really is not. You could do basically the same thing with a lot of different set-ups, as simple as slowly evaporating the alcohol off with your magnetic stirrer. Those are an awesome tool. Just do it slooooowly and with lots of ventilation.

I just ordered some of this to try if I need something to thin it a little...I was amazed to see how many terpenes are for sale on Amazon now, and there were products like this a lot cheaper too.

Decided to attempt making rosin carts last night. I started with an ounce of Black Lime Bubba, small buds. Pre=pressed and put into 120 micron bags. I got back 4 grams, decarbed it, then added 5 drops of Lime terpenes, and 3 drops of the liquify pro and stirred ona magnetic stirrer. Loaded up 1 CCell to soak overnight and to try today for breakfast.

IT'S AWESOME! Might be the best cart I have ever vaped, Excellent quality and flavor, and I know this will last twice as long as the crap I've been buying!

Hopefully the cutting with terps has liquified the fats/wax/lipids to the point where it will be smooth until the end! I wonder how long/well it lasts, please keep us updated.

So the whole ounce ended up going into 1 CCELL!? Or you kept some rosin for later use?

It seems if it requires a whole ounce to make (a gram?) small bit of oil -- then this cant be so economical for any commercial scale??

What was the reason you added liquirfy pro instead of more Lime terps? (I guessed, so the flavor wont be overly strong, but the wax will become more oil-like, more liquified). It would also work fine with just terps right?

Did you calculate the % of terps that were added in?

How long / what temp / how many presses / what pressure for the rosin press?

I think there's enough there to fill 3-4 of the 1G carts...I didn't want to fill them all in case it needed more of something. I am going to warm the mix back up and load it into carts today so I'll let you know.

I followed the suggested mixing ratios given on the Terpence Store website, approx.. It's still very very thick, but vapes fine in a CCell. I only filled a cart a little more than half way and vaped the hell out of it all day yesterday with a friend...plus 2 other friends tried it ( we are all vaccinated) and there's still quite a bit left. Everyone said the same thing..."where can I get some?" It seems incredibly long lasting!!

My presses were at 200F for about 2 1/2 minutes. I got about 2.6 grams from the first press and another 1.5 from the 2nd press. I feel like some oil is lost using the micron bags but wanted to keep it as clean as possible.

I don't know as this would work with every strain...I chose the bubba as it seems to not have a ton of wax in it. And it's nothing I would do to try and re-sell them, unless you could get $100 a gram (which its easily worth IMO) but it's nice for personal use.

Yeah I was very pleased with the results...I'm also thinking it might be nice to mix with distillate, and I think it might work without adding the terpenes too. I think next time I'll try filling a cart with nothing but pure decarbed rosin and see how/if it vapes compared to this.

The taste is so incredibly smooth too...You can take a huge hit and no sure throat, and not all that fake vapor that comes from VG/PG, etc.

Well don't get too excited yet guys....The cart plugged on me tonight!. It was 80% gone but still. I might thin it a tad more before i load any more. I heard this can be a problem from fats, plus they usually use hash or kief pressings for this...I just didn't want to thin it too much!

Damn! Okay cut it more. Ive heard that you might also want to experiment with slow and low decarb to help it stay more liquid. Keep us posted.

I was thinking perhaps I didn't decarb it long enough too, and in fact the rest is still in the beaker so I will decarb longer! It was after midnight when I made this stuff and I was doing dabs all night

I'm thinking this would be great to mix this with some good distillate on about a 50/50 mix too...but that's to come in the near future hopefully!

Saw this...yet another way to winterize rosin...I do like the syringe filter idea...

Yeah bro, you are def gonna have to winterize. I’m surprised you got that many hits before it doing that. It’s not from being too thick for the Ccell trust me.
Back when i was farting around doing this, before i got into making distillate, there wasn’t really much chatter on here or elsewhere online about it. My own R&D costed me a shitload of fucked up carts. Until i found out about the need to winterize.

so i said fuck it, if i gotta winterize might as well keep going and make distillate! Lol although not from rosin of course. That’s just a wasted step if making distillate. Imo

I remembered you saying the waxes were a problem...I think the BL Bubba is a less waxy strain, probably why it did do well. But yeah I hate the idea of adding alcohol to rosin to winterize....because there goes your great taste.

I wonder if squeezing rosin through a syringe filter while hot would remove enough wax to help, or do we need the cold factor to separate them? It's tough to get all the alcohol out, but hopefully a vacuum chamber will help there if needed I'm thinking.

This rosin cart was tasty AF and so long lasting!! I did order up a few syringe filters tonight, and I'm going to be attempting some distillate from various methods in the coming days/weeks too.
