I saw they have green colored cfl's at the local depot. Will these work for a night light in my room when the lights are off. I don't really feel like buying the green hornet for 20 bucks if I can just use the green cfl they sell at the depot for like 5 bucks.

I dont know about the green lights at home depot i thought the same thing but when reading about the night and green light thing in one of my mags it said that it has to be a truley green light so what scares me about those from home depot that there just a lightbulb with the outer part of the cfl just colored to make it green cause i guess if any true light like photosynthesis light gets to the plants during flowering in the dark time its no good could cause a hermie and you dont want that believe me your hard work will be worthless with as many seeds as one hermie can produce not only on itself but all your plants. I payed the extra money and got one of the green lantern hat clip lights. Its the worse feeling when you dry out your bud and you go through all the work and then you break a bud up and it shoots seeds like a machine gun made me physically ill. You can do it how u like but thats my 2 cents

I use the green cfl, bought it from walmart for relatively cheap. Didn't know that you needed a specific type for night light. No hermies in my garden from the light.

Any light that is green will not be picked up by the plant...because in effect they reflect anything green as opposed to absorbing it...or some such thing as that...

I just leave them alone when it is dark...do what I have to do during lights on...why all the issue?

I run my lights on at night for 2 reasons. Heat and money. At night electricity is something like 30% cheaper after 8 in my neighborhood then another is heat. So If any work is done, it's normally night time for them. Unless you like the night shift.

im on the night shift as well. i usually just do everything when the lights are on, even spraying ( i go 7-7 and i dont like waking up at 630am to spray) ^^^ that little headlamp above is the only green lamp i use. and if your shit is truly dark, that green lamp sucks and it is really hard to move around a good size room with it. i also heard that regular green cfls are no bueno, but it could all be hear say. IMO i would spend the extra few bucks to be absolutely sure.. only my opinion because i have had a hermi before and understand the hell that comes with it.
