I have recently built a nice hidden cabinet for growing. Dimensions are 22" x 42" x 48" my lighting system consists of 1 - 1,000 watt MH, 1 - 400 watt MH and 8 - 2 foot fluorescent 24 watt T5 HO 6,500k lights rated at 2,000 lumens each. I can currently change 4 of those bulbs to red when ready. Am I on the right track, or is this overkill?

Way to much light for that lil of space. I have 1 600 in a 4x4x7 tent and I can pull 3-4 zips from each plant. Your going to run into all kinds of heat problems with that many lights in such a small space.

Yes, I will start testing for heat this weekend. I have 3 120mm exhaust fans at the top, right between the two MHs and two 80mm intake fans at the bottom. Yes, I am obviously new at the this... : ) but having fun!

Hey that's the only way to learn. Just experiment just see what you can get away with, it's the only way you will learn what works or doesn't. Trial and error, that's what this hobby is all about :D

Dnt even need to test bro way to much I would say the 400 and a little supplemental lighting if needed I run 2 1000's in a 4x8 dimmed to 750 and have all the coveradge I need I think a 400 and a nice exhaust would do u good... But like giggles said play around find what works for u
What hoods do u have or cooltubes or u going bare bulb

LOL I see that now bro, ya its the only way to learn. I've fucked up a lot of shit in my time by experimenting but it taught me what not to do next time lol.

If your just starting out I'd start with bag seed and see how you do, no reason to fuck up expensive seeds the first time

The inside of my cabinet is wallpapered with Mylar. The fluorescents are a good quality, covered and low heat, but the MH's are bare bulbs.

Ya bare bulbs are going to need some kind of fan blowing on them and good circulation to keep it cool. I just really think it's way to much. Start with the 400 and run for awhile test temps and then if your fine start adding other lights, it's better to know before you have plants in there instead of thinking your good and trying to fix temps and shit when you have babies in there.

This of course is just IMO so like me and method said, try it out and see what works, if you can get all that lighting in there then do it if you want, but honestly that is way to many lumens per sq/ft

I wasn't going to plant at all until I knew I could control the heat... Even if that means not turn something on. My ballasts are adjustable too. But, yea... I was pretty sure once I got the lights mounted that I eff'd up lol
