I've got a couple ounces of weed I'd like to store for 1 year + sitting in mason jars right now. I'm considering a vacuum sealer, but not sure which brand to get, or if they're even worth it. What's the cheapest way to go about this? Thanks in advance.

Ok sorry I can't tell you how much a sealer costs but they are worth it for sure!
It's like freezing it in time- you could get wet stuff and seal that and it won't mold, you just unseal and it will be more compact but otherwise right how you left it.

With all the ways your shit can be degraded or attacked I think vacuum seal is unrivaled as a long or medium term strategy.

*edit* Oh and as a last thought, the sealed bag is a layer of protection but you will want to keep it in a dark and cool climate too i'd imagine. No need to worry about what humidity stored in though.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'll probably go with a vacuum sealer. Can anyone recommend a specific one?

I have the Food Saver brand and I've packaged a lot of weed with it. You can buy Mylar bags but the normal bags that you buy for it are super thick so you don't need the mylar. It does an incredible job and you can even use them for food. :)

You can buy tightvac sets of 4 for $20-$30. The set can hold about a half lb. I use these with meds bagged inside and then store in the fridge. Nothing gets in and nothing gets out. I got black ones, but here's a pic.

I just got a used Foodsaver Vac550 on ebay for this very purpose for $30 and a roll of bags for $10. I haven't actually packaged anything with it yet, but the test runs worked great. Get a model that allows you to use a continuous roll of bags.

TechnoMage, your 2 year storage smoke report just sold me on the pump-n-seal. They should put that 2 year old hashberry on the pump-n-seal website front page. It would sell millions.

Thanks for all the responses guys. Some good ass suggestions. I might have to pick up one or 2 of those tightvac containers as well.

^^^^^^THAT^^^^^^

Foodsaver, don't even mess with another brand and make sure it uses the continuous rolls.

The Foodsaver brand of bags cost more, but are much heavier and worth it in the long run.

I've had smoke that was sealed for 2 1/2 years come out just like it went in. Just need to keep it in a dark and cool spot.

Update:

I just finished packing my White Dwarf Harvest in vacum sealed FoodSaver bags. I used a 6" wide continuous bag roll. Next time I might go 8". I packed about 1/8 oz per packet. It's nice to be be able to package a 'bite sized' quantity. It all went quick and easy once I got the hang of it.

The vacum really compresses the weed to a fraction of its size. I might try packing w/o vacuum

Took me a while to get the hang of the machine and its quirks. This is a vac 550 used from ebay. Looks like a solid no frills model. Must admit I got a bit frustrated until I understood that it has to sense that it has drawn a vacuum whether it's just hot sealing or sealing with a vacum.
