I would agree with the money thing but until you've run one of these you wouldn't understand why someone who does would recommend it. They are built to do 3x3 very well, if yield is the end goal I don't care how many T5's you could cram into that space, they would not match the yield of one of these lights. The LEC would pay for itself in the first run.
I have run a 400 watt ceramic for veg since before those lights came out, So I am a huge fan of them. But 3x3?? Is the heat that much less on those units? I would never stick my 400 ceramic in that space.

For a noob who will only grow one time probably, why not just get a generic 400W HPS lamp with magnetic ballast and batwing reflector?

I'd recommend cxa/cxb or vero for people who were sure they will grow more than one time, but the startup cost for a generic 400W hps is so low for someone not sure if this is the right hobby for them.

It looks like you can get exactly this at HTG supply still for $119.95.

Until you've run an lec please, don't talk shit on them.

Mine seems to be going better than yours, you seem a little touchy. Why so worked up over a light?
OH you know, I get tired of people recommending shit lights man. People don't understand the quality of light and what might be a factor in that so they push wtfever just because it SEEMS to look like light to them and it's cheap.
Not taking into consideration flicker , thd, spectrum and wtfever determines the quality of the light.
I'm no fucking expert but I've been doing this for awhile and started with the tried and true hps but bought decent shit in the first place, like hortilux lamps. I certainly wouldn't waste the money on a hortilux lamp to run on a ipower ballast.

So we cool? I was having a moment, just back from the doctor and my anxiety/depression doesn't seem to make fuck to him since he gave me nothing for it.

on a lighter side I know how to acquire my own shit for anxiety/depression and in I'd say oh ....about 5 minutes I'm gonna be a whole lot more mellow and probably recommending ipower.

When I switched the LEC's in for existing LED's in my room, watt for watt they brought the ambient temps up by only 3F, they are very cool in comparison to hps or hid. Not sure what does it other than the tech in the bulb. The hoods on these are closed, that is, they have no cooling vent/hole to suck the heat away, they don't need it. I made no changes to my setup other than swap out the lights, cool tech. I just pulled 3x 5gal, 3 different strains, 12.45 zips dry which is about 1.1gpw (soil) and I wasn't running for numbers, it was a pheno hunt with 2x DIY crosses in there and 1x JTR which is not a huge yielder. I'm running one set of 4x 5gal Blue Dream's in ~3.5 x 3.5' this round to see what they can really do with a decent yielding strain, looking to get close to a lb., will be happy with 420g ;)

I'm definitely a noob, but don't plan on going one and done... I Believe in Mary j and its natural healing powers and I've bought the highest quality everything up to this point to give myself the best chance to succeed.. Last thing to get is a light and there's no way I'm going cheap... I'm trying to figure out the best light possible for that space regardless of price.. I want quality
