Long Vegging Times?

So why is it some people veg there plants for upwards of 6-8 weeks? I mean am I missing something? How could this help? Wouldn't it just be a real tall plant that gets no light on the bottom basically giving no bonus then say 4 weeks? Someone fill me in.

I think the best reason for a long veg time is for the legal grows that have a limit on the number of plants. These growers need a wide canopy on each plant to maximize yield. They don't necessarily let them grow taller, just wider. Also, clones require a bit of veg time to get established, then a bit more time to get tall enough...but plenty of growers 12/12 their clones.

If you are using 2 areas (veg/flower) and need to keep your plant numbers down and are cloning.
Put it this way. You have 4 (ten week) plants just going into flower under a 600w HPS. Cloning=2 weeks under 50w cfl , veg=8 weeks under 250w Mh.
Just as your flowering plants are ready to be harvested, your veg plants are ready to go in.
Cheapest electric bill, timing just right, minimal plant numbers.
Effectively a perpetual harvest of 60g/wk for less than 1Kw/hr

just because you veg it longer then 4 weeks doesnt mean its just tall ... i top or lst to get fair sized bushes when i veg for 6 to 8 weeks .. side lighting works wonders ... nice short bushes .. not equiped for tall ones. the longer you veg the more branches you get .. more branches = more bud if grown correctly ... there are + or - to veging longer .. lots of different opinions .. but i it always comes back to .. more branches = more bud .. mind you not the huge budcandy you see but more quantity

happy growin

also bigger plant, bigger root system, bigger system, stronger plant..stronger plant, more quantity and probably better quality (if growing conditions are optimum obviously)

Its not worth Vegging longer unless you have the pot size, light, and space to handle it! I Usually veg between 2-4 months depending on strain, But i use 25 gallon pot size and 4k watts light. I have almost gotten 1lb per plant the closest ive been is 12 oz. But if you have a system to where you harvesting every other month there is no need to get them that big because almost always you will get more in the long run doing a 60/60 day schedule. I Just like Getting them that big because i want to learn the way of the 1lb plant.
