Lollipop Progress

I'm back to hydro after some outdoor and indoor soil growing last year. It is nice to switch it up, as each type of growing presents difficulties I often forget about until I do another cycle. This grow I decided to grow out seeds I had collected from other grows, like my Serious Seeds AK-47 F2 from a 2 best male, 2 best female seed run I did in 2009. Other seeds I used were mystery crosses, with the very few seeds I found in the last soil harvest. They include: Grandoggy Purps x ? and Blackberry Kush x?. The Free Leonard x ? and Grand Daddy Purps x ? will be saved for a few cycles, then grown. Free Leonard is really a special smoke, so I figure I'll wait. Long story short I vegged, flipped to 12/12 after about 4 weeks, pulled the males and weak females, and came up with my 9 plants worthy of finishing. 2.5 weeks into Flowering I lollipopped the bottom 1/3 of all the plants after the initial stretch. These are my results so far:

Thanks, while a few only have about a week or so to go, most have 2-2.5 weeks to fatten up. The beer can is a full sized 12 oz. Pabst. I don't know why it looks smaller in the pics. I am a main cola kind of guy and don't get into the topping/FIM thing much. They are about as big around as a 16 oz. solo cup. I forgot to mention that I use Dynagro Grow for veg, 50% DG Bloom/50% DG Grow for flower, and the supplements I use are Dynagro Protekt, CalMag+ OR Dynagro MagPro, Floralicious Plus, and Superthrive. Total cost of nutes for this grow was under $100. Vegging was done under 4 foot 4 bulb T5s for 2 weeks followed by 400 watt Metal halide for 2 weeks, and flowering is under a 1000 watt HPS. Tray is 2'x4', and reservoir is 40 gallons filled to about the 30 gallon mark. or so.

Damn Nice buds!!! You can see the chem dawg in it alot. I bet it was real nice smoke cured though, it should have a nice fuel funk to it!

Thanks for the compliments. To answer the few questions I do cure for 2-3 months. I've used CO2 in previous grows that I posted when I was setup in a closet,. I did this because of the stagnant air problem presented by an inner enclosed room, and also because of higher temperatures in the high 80s in flowering. I now use a fresh air intake from the outside, and plants seem to love that even more. We all need some fresh air now and then, eh? No need for CO2. I used the dynagro lineup with floralicious and superthrive as posted above. Since this run I've been doing dirt grows in sunshine #4 and advanced #4, but after revisiting this thread I will probably go back to hydo lolz! Strains I'm running now are Sherbert, Gorilla Glue #4, Cherry Pie, Pre98 Bubba, Forum Girl Scout Cookies, White Urkle #2, BlueDream, Mango Puff, and Deathstar. Pics of those grows and others such as Stompahoe, Skywalker, and Ghost OG will be posted soon along with nutes and setup changes. Cheers from The Mitten

That grow was a few years ago, but under 1k hps in a 2x4 tray and 9 plants it was somewhere around .7g/watt. Shitty return compared to LED, but for the space and equipment I had at the time I was happy. I almost decided to run Cree CXB3590s to replace the hps, but I get tremendous penetration even when I don't scrog from the more intense h.i.d.(maybe just percieved intensity?) Not to say it doesn't happen, but I've never seen dense, tall, fat colas like these under LED. Of course running a strain like cookies this would never happen. I never used to like larfy shit at all, but now with concentrate popularity and all I tolerate it for that. Drawback to the big colas is potential bud rot and foxtailing on some strains. I veg for about a month and a half now and scrog to accomodate the some of the low yielding, high potency genetics I currently run

Last harvest w/ pics of Deathstar(upgraded to a 25 ounce beer can to show massive main cola), group shot of Gorilla Glue #4, Cherry pie, GSCoookies, Pre98 Bubba. Cherry Pie under 600 watts HPS. Also solo shot of my latest AK-47 x Free Leonard breeding project, and finally, a beutiful harvest pic of Mango Puff from genotype A2. Cheers.
