Loft grow...

I'm at 2 weeks and 2 days now, and my plants (not seedlings) are still looking good. There is one problem, the bottom leaves of two plants have turned yellow. The only thing that has changed recently is adding the nutes and Ive learnt that a potassium deficiency can turn the leaves yellowish. Whether this is what's happening or not I have flushed the plants with fresh water. New growth seems to be fine with a nice deep green colour. Please let me know what you think, especially if you can diagnose the yellow leaves for me!

Thanks

BTW the plant on the far right of the pic has just been tied down to begin the LST process which is why it looks strange. I'll take some better pictures of this when it gets a bit further on.

yea joker..i am curious about the yellow leaves on the bottom myself..cause one of mine is doing the same thing..one of my friends said its ok cause the plant is spending more energy on the top of the plant and new growth, but this kids kinda dumb so i was wondering if anyone knows the real cause

Thanks Spidey!

That sounds like a possibility, but I'm not entirely convinced either Closet46. Sure the bottom leaves aren't getting as much light as the top and all the new growth is at the top, but surely the bottom leaves will just stop growing. I can't believe the plant would just drain all the Chloro-stuff from the leaves as well...... But I'm not that much of a botanist either......

Thanks tillthedayidie! Keep flying the Brit flag mate!

I got up this morning to find my plantings wilting, badly! The yellow leaves had got worse, and they were mostly facing the floor. So they went straight back on the nutes as they were due a watering. In less than an hour they have perked right back up and are back on the rise. PHEW!!!!!

It looks like if get yellowing leaves it is a deficiency and its time to up the nutes!

I'm gonna give them till tomorrow to recover and then transplant so they don't get root bound and for the last week or so of Veg.

All comments, especially those that ease my paranoia, very very welcome!

Ta!

Those first spike leaves always turn yellow and fall off,no worries.when leaves yellow the plant is using nitrogen from older leaves, its very normal.Becarful with nutes you should only feed every 3 waterings, plain water twice then 3rd watering add nutes.About willting;plants will wilt when they need water and right after watering.Dont be afraid to lst them, but i would transplant them in the final (size) pots first, wait about4-5 days for the roots to take then lst them you wont be sorry.PS dont stress its a weed they can take lots of abuse.good luck.

Ronbud, it depends what nutes you're using at what concs and what stage your plants are in as to when you should add nutes - you can't just say you should only add nutes once every 3 waterings. Larger older fan leaves yellowing is a classic sign of Nitrogen deficiency, so try upping the N content of your ferts bit by bit
Oh, and big up the UK massiv!

Thanks ronbud, appreciate your help mate. These must be nutes you haven't experienced! Here's what it says about them on the site I bought them from....

Bio-Grow is a liquid plant food that promotes lush growth and is suitable for most all soil mixtures. It is a fertilizer and soil activator that can be used with drip irrigation systems. Bio-Grow can be used late in flowering as a plant tonic.
APPLICATION
Complete liquid plant nutrient. To be used during the whole cycle (vegetative and flowering period) of the plant.
DOSE
2 – 4 ml per Litre water. Use with every watering Quantity
1 Litre

Thankyou for the lst advice, I am going to transplant them tonight (I think growth has slowed) and will post pics in a couple of hours.

Just got in from work, they look Good! Need a joint before I climb up ladders!

Thanks for the comments

I figured that joint first and ladder second was the wrong way round. So up I went and transplanted all 4 plants into bigger pots and gave them a good watering (with nutes). As you can see from the pics below they wilted a little, but I am just going to take that as normal - not panicing. I spent some time rearranging stuff up there and getting the plants right back under the lights and up close. They've another 3 1/2 hrs till the lights go out, so I will check on them again before then.........

All help very much appreciated!

Plants have perked up and are looking good today. I think there is a little less yellow and a bit more green. Fingers crossed! I'll post more pics tomorrow......

I can't tell for sure, but it looks like the yellow leaves are just one pair. And an early pair at that. In all my grows the early leaves die off during the course of the plants life cycle. Nute deficiencies aren't a localized phenomenon.

Thanks guys. I hear what you're saying silk, so maybe upping the nutes hasn't cured the yellow leaves, bt the plants certainly like it! Maybe it's the bigger pots, I'm not sure... The problem worries me less and less every day as I see new growth and development. Anyway here are some pics at 25 days from seedling. You can see that the plant I tied down has grown right through its plastic tie and will need a second one in a few days. So far so good for LST. All comments very welcome..... plus because I am short on height I will need to begin 12/12 as soon as possible with my tallest 'free' plant which I am not going to use the LST technique this time. What is the signal that flowering can begin?
