Sure,Coast of Maine sells a product like that. Like mustang said, lobsters contain chitin which helps fight pests and disease by activating a plants defense. You can also use insect frass which will do the same (and be a lot less work lol). I use a water only soil recipe that calls for a 1/3 compost. Since I have access to a lot of cooked lobster bodies, it was a pretty easy decision to compost them.

Ran some of the compost through an old window screen. I'm going to add a couple cups of this to my last run of soil and see how my plants do in amended soil.
Looks awesome man, keep up the good fight. Definitely an inspiration to step up my composting game and look forward to hearing your take on this compost compared to others you've used in the past.

Thanks a lot man, appreciate that. I've been hesitant to bring the compost inside (a little concerned about bugs/pests) but I cant find the bagged stuff I usually use. The soil recipe I use can and should be amended and reused, I've never tried though. I have a relatively small grow, and what I mix up lasts me close to a year. I'm hoping amending my run soil with a little fresh compost and some em-1 will work.

Hey man, nice work! I've been looking into commercial composting, and you can reduce or eliminate smell by aerating (turning for you) more often and maintaining the correct carbon to nitrogen ratio in your pile. You can send samples to be tested in your local universities. Look up their agriculture branches. They can also do micro nutrient analysis so you know if you are missing anything or plants need.

Due to covid, I wont be able to grab any lobster shells this year. Glad I decided to compost the shells last year, I have a few good sized piles that need to break down more. Im having a hard time keeping the pile hot, but should be broken down enough by the end of the summer. This summer I'll be going into the forest and coastline for stuff to add to the pile. Im curious about mosses and forest humus and how beneficial that would be. And of course I'd harvest that responsibly, we love our woods that surround us. I made up a fresh batch of soil using a 1cubic foot of my lobster compost (screened twice to remove all the bigger stuff), 1cubic foot of happy frog soil conditioner, 1cubic foot of rice hulls, 1.5 cups of each of the following, milled malted barley, kelp meal, neem seed meal, and fish meal flower. 4 cups of rock dust and gypsum, and a half a cup of langbeinite. Filled my 2 sips perfectly

Things are humming right along. Been about 2 weeks since I filled my SIPS and planted.
This is just a little under two weeks being in the dirt and so far, the plants are responding well to my compost/soil. The yellow sticky traps are a preventative for gnats, last run when i amended my previously run soil with the compost, i had a gnat explosion but it didnt last long, hypoaspis miles showed up and pretty much immediately cleared up those pesky bastards. So far so good tho...
Two weeks of growth. Two of the plants have been topped

Amended a few outdoor grow bags with compost, kelp, fish meal powder and neem seed cake. Just put out some plants a couple weeks ago. I'm making seeds so size isnt a concern. I put some out for pollination at this time last summer and it worked out well. The plants didnt get too dense and I was able to harvest seeds well into October which can be rough weather here.
First pic is of a seeded Jaws Mrs Pebbles that got pollinated by gg4 cross from last summer.Purpled up hard during those crisp October nights

Think I'll add a little more neem seed meal to this indoor mix. More yellow leaves toward the end than I'd like but no deficiencies
