Loads of big flies on my plants

Yo guys,

just noticed my plants are covered in big flies, the type that piss you off when your trying to eat.

why is this and is it a problem / bad for the plants?

Yup they will spit up and burn holes in leaves. Can mess up growth by eating? Tops and nodes off. They are not good, lrradicate with fly paper. Or sticky traps.

Got any pics? Large flies like your describing are usually a " filth" type fly like bottle or blow flies. Could be attracted to organic matter like compost but if your plants are healthy shouldn't be a problem

Lol me neither not the kind hes describing at least. I've seen some loamy soils filled with giant horse flies though

I have but only drunk that way its already watered down. I live in a city, we have flys as big as busses. They can mangle a plant in a few days if enough of them. All my neighbours have dogs too, think they might be attracted to poo!

Those vile little bastards start making an appearance once the weather starts warming up. One got inside my window about the size of a honda civic. Probably looking for a place to drop its little maggot kids.

Southern that's weird to me maybe a different species? Usually eat decaying nasty type shit not healthy green stuff. You mentioned their secretions so maybe that's what's doing damage? Or do you see damage from them eating on it?

Available from Asda/Wallmart they're perfect for using as a insect filter over the ducting, I've got similar ones I got made up for me, obviously I didn't realise I could just go and buy them, or not decent ones anyway.

That looks like a shield beetle or a stink bug.

Yes sir ! Stink bug common here and a pitas
Think some people call them squash beetles too. Think conifer beetle is correct but idk just know they eat plants for sure

Those horse flies are nasty. I've been bitten by them and they leave nice welts. They can bite right through a t-shirt.

I had them a few weeks back. I think they can from a bag of mushroom compost I mixed in with my soil base when I repotted. Got half of them with a fly strip, killed by hand all but 2-3. Little bastards were eating the tips of my leaves. Shoo them away right back to leaf...hardheaded. They annoyed me for about a week and died off havent seen them since.

Its black fly season in northern Ontario. Sometimes you don't even realize you were nailed until you see the blood on your skin.

Oh waiter theres a fly in my soup...
