Little Gnats!!! nothing is working.

There are gnats and little tiny black bugs that i am figuring turn into the gnats as they age, all over my grow box. I have been dealing with then for a while now and nothing I have tried works.
I have tried mixing 1 part hydrogen peroxide 3 parts water and watered them. I saw a thread on riu that sweared this was the best way to do it. They were wrong. These bugs are just multiplying like crazy.

I also have this bug spray from Ace hardware that is supposed to be safe for blooming plants. There are lots of dead ones laying on the floor of my grow box but every time I look in there it seem like there are more little bugs crawling around to though.

this is seriously driving me nuts.
does anyone have a suggestion?

Use Neem oil and cover the soil with an inch of sand.Whatever it is ...it can't be good...pics?

buy some sand and put about an inch or two on top of your soil.. this will kill the eggs. buy some sticky traps for the gnats and flys.

You can try buying some mint tea and pour it in the soil (not hot though). That's only temporary and the sand really is the best idea. If you don't get them under control and quickly, you will probably lose your plants.

I tried the dish soap trick and it didn't work for me. Sand works every time though.

They are probably Fungus Gnats. They are usually a sign of over watering as they feed on decaying roots and other dead organic matter in the soil. In rich soils, you will almost always have a few gnats, but that's just a part of having a healthy living soil.

If the gnats start to multiply rapidly, that usually means that some conditions have changed in your soil, like an increase in decaying organic matter, like dying roots and such.

Ive found that MG organic soil is infested with bugs.

I will never use any MG product ever again. Complete crap from every angle you look at. dont waste your money on anything that is made by Miracle Grow!!!!

I cant believe how buggy it is. I have a small pot filled with mg og soil and some basil growing in it. if you look at the top of the soil there are so many bugs that it looks like its actually moving or flowing.

I decided to turn it into an outside plant. dont want all those little fuckers in my house.

I also got rid of all of the mg soil i have. what a fucking ripoff that shit is

Sand works well.

You can also put a slice of potato in the room next to plants...the gnats will be attracted to the potato and lay their eggs in that instead of the soil. Every day, toss out the potato and in a few days you should have far fewer pests.

There are carnivorous plants (sundews) similar to venus fly traps that I've heard work too.

But if nothing else use the sand.

yea man that shit sucks, I also read that is has little nute crystals in it, even though its supposed to be organic.

I used mg soil and had the same problem. tons of fungus nats. I used a pesticide called "Eight" and let the soil dry before watering again. Supposedly Eight is cool to use on vegetables. If I get them again, I am going for the sand barier.

Nice tips by everyone. I'd say you first need to address the overwatering your doing. Keeping moist plant soil breeds bugs knats for sure. The sand-very thinnnnn amount works asap.

Long term....water when pots dry issue, possible soil sucks go to fox farm Ocean Forest to nip it in the bud bug issues...unless you still want to keep watering too much.

Bug spray…and the plants love it spray....
Spray bottle

- one cap full each of Neem oil, Seaweed extract (Home Depot cheap) and Hydrogen peroxide. Fill with phed water. Shake well before using. Use in veg. and let leafs dry before putting direct under lights. Put on when lights are out with good fan venting. Use in flower till buds appear maybe till wk 5 then only spray on top of soil before watering so mix is provided to plant roots.

not sure if this really works but heard its amazing, is to take tobacco out of smokes and boil it in water, strain it and water the plants with this water. The tobacco has absolutely no negative effects on the plant, but kills all living insects(with a few exceptions). Something to do with the chemicals in it not hurting organic things only living tissues or something like that? anyways the sand method sounds effective enough but this works for other things not just gnats. look it up for more info or ask some people on here

i dont know if i would do that. i think you would have a better chance of boiling onion skins and going that route.

best way is to not use MG soil. if you have to just put an inch or two of clean sand on the top.

dont waste your time making some nasty tincture that will most definitely affect the plant

One of the main problems with Miracle Grow or any of the soils at lowe/hd is they are on pallets outside. They have holes in the bags for moisture retention so when rain or the guy watering down the place gets the bags wet they stay moist and the knats explode. Most people like to see their soil moist when they bring it home to use in the garden (those that don't know much about gardening)...Most people use MG outdoors so it isn't as big an issue.....

If your hydro store has fox farm products most likely they are inside and dry.
