Little black flies

Ok so I have seen 2 little tiny black flies crawling on my soil so far. I am worried that these are gnats. From what I read here those 2 could be 400 by the time I get home! My wife may have a problem with that as my grow closet is in our bedroom. From what I read I guess I will put fly stripps up tonight along with a saucer of beer lol. I am afraid to put the sand in because I dont want it to affect my plants. Also my gals are only 3/4" tall right now, will that mean I shouldnt use sand? And since they are so tiny is it ok to let the first 2" of soil totally dry out before I water again? I have read letting it dry will kill the larvae.

Im having the same problem but mine are in flowering. I wouldnt go the sand route just cause it sounds sketchy on such small plants but Im trying the fly strips and have been letting the tops of my soil dry out. Havent seen that many more of them but still see em. Pisses me off....

Put some apple cider in a mason jar, cover top with saran wrap with rubber band. Poke little holes in plastic, and set by plants. Check your drainage. Don't let dry out.

i dont know if this will work but it works for fruit flies. i get a cup and pour in vinegar mixed with dish washer soap and cover the top with saran wrap (like mentioned above) take a fork and poke some holes in the wrap and leave it there for as long as you want and it will keep trapping those damn flies!
