From what I have read it seems like I don't have nearly enough light but one of my plants has grown to about two feet after a little over a month and seems to be healthy. I'm working with a 13 watt fluorescent lamp (not a cfl) and a 50 watt incandescent. First time grow, I just wanted to see what would happen and didn't do a good job with preparation but is there anyway this could work? I'm only growing two plants right now.

How much growth would you expect with this amount of lighting? As I said, my bigger plant of the two is close to two feet and seems healthy. I'm about two weeks into flowering now and all seems well (unless it turns out to be male of course). Should I expect complication soon without adjustment?

Frankly, I dont know if you will get much bud at all. You would need at least 1 150W equivalent CFL 2700k bulb to get much of anything, but even then its probably a waste of a properly vegged plant.

im gonna bet your plants have little foliage and are stocky as hell? Its not nearly enough light. Even for just one plant u need a 400 watt hps/mh, at least thats wat i use when i have only one going and the yield is always well worth the wait(Qp+). Id be suprised if u even got three and a half grams dry total.

Your incandescent bulb gives your plants nothing but heat it dosen't need. Jorge Cervantes says that an absolute minimum of 65w for one plant is needed, and even with that she will not reach anywhere near max potental. Your two foot plant most likely is not showing a healthy growth pattern, but rather 'stretching' for much needed light.
I suggest that you please, put that poor plant out of it's misery...B

I think your size guess is a little on the optimistic side(use a tape measure and youd be surprised), And you plants are kinda stringy to be honest, if you were to up your lighting considerably youd be very surprised at the results, as it is now, if it even did anything you might end up with a bowl or 2's worth. Get your self a light socket splitter and a couple 42w(100w equiv.) cfls at least. Then find the SeeMoreBuds "grow 8oz for 100 bucks" book. That will at least help get you goin in the right direction.:mrgreen:

Hey, thanks for all the feedback. I will definitely try it with considerably more lighting next time! 42w cfls you say? Are they the most "bang for your buck"(I'm workin with very little buck!)

I have dicked around with cfls only a little bit...but just like any other lights, more is better, the 42w (150w equiv.) seems to be a popular choice, as they can be found nearly anywhere, (lowes-home depot-kmart-walmart) and have a decent lumen output for their power usage. And with how young your plants are, they arent to far gone to make something worthwhile out of them, just start adding lights as u can afford.

Well, thanks. I'm starting to think the bigger one is male. From what I've heard I don't think I could possibly grow a female plant with my light problem because my plant would be so stressed. (?) So maybe now is a good opportunity to get some lights/more seeds and start over anyway.

So, I got a 23w equivalent cfl for now to go with my other florescent lamp. I was just looking into other lighting options and I was thinking a 50w HPS light/ballast (under $40 it looks like?) Think this would be sufficient for growing a couple plants?

Its supposed to put out 4,000 lumens plus my cfl which says 1500 lumens=5500 lumens. Right now I'm at like 2,000 lumens. How many lumens per plant do I need really for a good yield? And do you think my plants will yield anything now if I stay with the two fluorescents I have now?

from what i have seen and read here is another solution.
get a couple of workman clip-on spotlights from home depot. small ones and use highest wattage cfl you can find.

switch to 12/12 and sex your plants. hopefully you get a female.
if you do clone it and replant it. now keep the lights as close as possible.

read up on cloning techniques here and also topping and fimming.

then you should get a nice bushy plant with multiple nodes for bud producing giving you a better yield.

hps wouldnt hurt.

Alright, I think I'll be good now. I got one 23w (I think, it says 100 watt equivalent-23w) cfl and a 100w HPS on the way. Should this be plenty sufficient?
