they are almost certainly fungus gnats. sticky fly paper will help catch the adults but they lay eggs in the soil. then the larvae munch on roots, anc can cause problems. ive had trouble with them myself and let me tell you they are tough to get rid of.. im still trying. i have a layer of sand on top of my soil to deter them. and traps up. i still have the little buggers. the love wet soil, and the larvae thrive in it, i let my soil dry out to the point the plant starts to droop a little.

there are some predatory mites that eat the larvae, you can find them online but they are not very cheap. and theres some bacteria as well that kills em off.

im gonna finish up all my plants and clear em out. then take great care to keep em out.

i may even go to hydro next. ive been thinkin about it for a while

U just need to treat the medium with a product containing Bacillus Thuringiensis, its the active ingredient in mosquito dunks. Just add a dunk to the feed water and leave it in there, dont break it up too much and water as usual. Dont spray the plants with anything, the gnats attack roots, not leaves.
To prevent another attack just water less, and u can also put a layer of fine perlite about a half inch high over the top of the soil.

I have the same problem in my Veg room..about 3 days ago i began pouring a layer of ground cinnamon on top of the soil and it kills the eggs and the gnats..i think i have 1 soldier of a gnat left from like 10...i pour it on every time after i water so there will be no new growth..hopes this helps
