Lights: too hot?

I'm working on a first time growbox, and i've got pretty much everything nailed down, except for lights. Can i get some lights that will have a relatively high output (400w-600w) but won't get blisteringly hot?

welcome to indoor growing. the hardest problem to solve is to get enough ventilation to cool the grow room when using hid lights. no real shortcut for this unless you want to give up some yield by using cfl's.

ignore those people who suggest led's, they're not ready for prime time and those that recommend them are often making money selling them.

Get an air-cooled reflector and a good inline fan to vent the heat away. That should all but eliminate heat issues.

yep your going to need a air cooled hood and a good fan to run it(200-400 cfm). but you will also need a fan to get fresh air to your plants 150-250 cfm. you want the tops of the plants to be around 76*.
