Lights on for 24 hours?

Is it okay to leave the lights on 24/7 during the veg stage? What's the benefit of turning them off for 6 hours? Sorry if this question has been asked, I used the search.

24/0 = denser plants, higher electric bill
18/6 = less dense(elongated in comparison), lower electric bill

I disagree with the elongated plant statement, with proper light placement this should not be an issue. I normally do it just for the power bill, plus those fans and ac gotta rest sometime.....This is what I get with an 18/6 schedule everytime, doesn't look 'elongated' to me 28days.jpg

What it comes down to imo, is the growers preference. Whether u choose 18/6, or 24/7, its all good. :weed:

I don't know about elongated, but 24/0 buds are a little denser. How much denser is debatable, but you'll yield more going 24/0. Comes down to being a personal preference - you'll get bud either way, but do you want to trade some electricity for a little more bud? My experience is that after a few grows most folks just go 24/0.

The only reason I don't go w/ 24/0 is b/c the first time I did my bulb died when I switched to 12/12. My dumbass didn't have a spare so it died slowly. Other than that your babes are more demanding, demanding more watering, more nutes, and a little more attention. That's about it, o and you do a get a higher yield to.

Plants will grow fine on 24 hrs light but every living thing needs a rest period, plants are just like people in the fact they do better with a little sleep.

I like to start em out on a 24/7 schedule just to get em started, then i work em down to 18/6. Again, personal preference is what it comes down to imo.

that is so true. i first read a growers guid years ago and learned alot but here is where you find the best info. and most of the members are very cool and want to help.
i like to do the 18/6 for the electric but i think the plants like a nap too.
although when the lights are out ive seen my plants grow an inch or more before the lights come back on. not actually seen it but i wish i could just watch them grow. i sit with my girls for hours it seems.

I know what you mean, I can sit there and just be in "awe" for a while.
My ballast has been fucking w/ me lately, and every time I turn off the light it won't turn back on for awhile. The first time it happened it didn't come back on for like a week, so for my next grow I'm just gonna go w/ 24/0 untill I get a new ballast, or kit.

when useing mh or hps bulbs you shouldnt turn the lights off then turn then back on. they need a cool down period of about 15 to 20 minutes before restarting. this will save the life of the ballast and the bulb.
if the light is cycleing on then off then on, a few minutes in between its either the bulb or the ballast. always cheaper to change the bulb first. if still aproblem then its the ballast.

Aww thanks for that +rep, I think it's cause I was testin' it out. Turnin it off then on almost immediately. I'm still gonna get a 400 HPS, I have a 250 MH right now, and I need the upgrade anyways. ThanxTho
