the best way is to slowly decrease the amount of time the lights are on. 2 weeks or so before you want to start bloom, start subtracting and hour of light a day until you reach 12/12. plants will show sex in about a week, after you hit 12/12(as opposed to 2 or more when you change it abruptly).

should you start decreasing the amount of time the lights are on during the vegging cycle when you predict your flowering cycle will come? or start decreasing when you hit the flowering cycle already and then slowly inch toward 12/12?

I have used a 24 to 36 hour dark period between 18/6 and 12/12 and had good results. Some plants showed sex as soon as 3 days.
