Are you guys going to grow foods outside this summer?

I've been planning my outside garden and have been researching and can offer a few tips. Here are 3 things to plant with tomatoes to improve your crop.

BASIL: Plant with tomatoes to improve growth and flavor Basil can be helpful in repelling thrips. It is said to repel flies and mosquitoes. Do not plant near rue or sage

BORAGE: Companion plant for tomatoes, squash, strawberries and most plants. Deters tomato hornworms and cabbage worms. One of the best bee and wasp attracting plants. Adds trace minerals to the soil and a good addition the compost pile. The leaves contain vitamin C and are rich in calcium, potassium and mineral salts. Borage may benefit any plant it is growing next to via increasing resistance to pests and disease. It also makes a nice mulch for most plants. Borage and strawberries help each other and strawberry farmers always set a few plants in their beds to enhance the fruits flavor and yield. Plant near tomatoes to improve growth and disease resistance. After you have planned this annual once it will self seed. Borage flowers are edible

French Marigold (T. patula) has roots that exude a substance which spreads in their immediate vicinity killing nematodes. For nematode control you want to plant dense areas of them. There have been some studies done that proved this nematode killing effect lasted for several years after the plants were These marigolds also help to deter whiteflies when planted around tomatoes and can be used in greenhouses for the same purpose. Whiteflies hate the smell of marigolds. Do not plant French marigolds next to bean plants

haha i am more than sure i D not want basil... in a few days itl have white flys, and little shit crawling all over it, i know this, in an inside environment, but outside its fine, but wasps and other insects eating the flies and afids and other stuff, but the marigold might be good to try

theres no way i will get hornworms in my closet, and havnt got them outside for about 8 years....

I asked if you were growing tomatoes outside this summer? Those are tips for outside growing.

I have 2 kinds of Basil growing inside and I don't have whiteflies. Are you sure they weren't in your soil?

oh ha outside, well outside is really easy i dont have any problems at all

i only had whiteflies start to come onto a basil plant which i took out of the ground in fall to keep over the winter inside, but it was starting to go down and the flies attacked it, decided to just kill it and start fresh, but i usually just go buy some tomatoes pre started and plant in april outside, but starting em inside this year and so far doing great,

id say tomatoes are way easier than bud, and here where i live bud will die from our tap water but tomatoes are fine with it

Marigolds are great to grow in the garden and keep out a lot of pests. Deer and Rabbits do not like the smell of them and will actually avoid the garden.

I have a 36 foot by 25 foot garden and plant around 50 Marigolds around the entire fence.

Now if I can just find a way to keep worms out of my Silver Queen without using Pesticides then I will be happy!
