CFL's work great cause the MH can be a bit much if you keep it to close. As long as it is 15 in. or so above the seedlings they should be fine, just make sure they are not baking.
The seedlings need to be hardened off. Start with your lamp at least 4' above them and lower it maybe 6" every couple of days til you are about 2' to 2.5' from them. Seedlings have a lot of built in energy; they don't need a lot of light.
